Purchasing classics there

Fire trucks always appeal to the imagination. Who hasn't dreamed of becoming a firefighter in boyhood? Duco never had those dreams, but still felt a (spark plug) spark when he saw this one Citroën 2CV discovered at Cousin Frères in Northern France. And… Duco does not shy away from a challenge, so a purchase became a necessity! Because who doesn't get fascinated by a 2CV that has stood the test of time. Well preserved for years, and still look very good despite the first glance? Well, we all know it: Old age leaves its mark.

Fantastic hobbies

The attractive – and time consuming – hobby gives a lot of positive emotions. Chances are you won't believe the story of the find. For starters, the Citroën 2CV Service Sécurité from 1966 found with a mileage of 5134 kilometers! It is correct because the car was used as a company fire brigade, in the large industry Cousin Frères. In the Netherlands there were many company fire brigades, larger companies were even obliged to maintain a company fire brigade.

History and background

It is always best to have the story told by the new owner, because that makes the story special.

Duco says: “I came the Citroën 2CV Service Sécurité traced through someone who has this car on Leboncoin/Fr. had seen, but found out that there was no longer a chassis plate or license plate with the car. He saw that it was the only one Citroën 2CV must be without holes in the hood to mount a license plate. The rear did not have that option either. Do you remember that in days gone by people painted the license plate on the car? It was certain that the  Citroën 2CV Service Sécurité only drove on the company premises, and never entered the public road, the mileage of 5134 is proof.”

Purchase of the Citroën 2CV Service Security

Duco: “I have the Citroën 2CV Service Sécurité bought from a grandson of the last owner of the company. (Production of fibres, yarn, fishing line, etc.) He was standing next to a Renault Estafette Pickup, also painted red, which had always stood brotherly next to the AZU in the company shed. The grandson was of course younger than both cars and due to personal circumstances both cars had to leave the field. Yet it turned out to be emotional for him to say goodbye to a wonderful piece of company history.”

Equipment of the Citroën 2CV Service Security

De Citroën 2CV Service Sécurité was equipped with some large fire extinguishers, the special brackets are still present. He was also equipped to attack first on the fire. Floodlights on the roof, and of course the well-known flashing lights can still be seen. In case of a larger fire, the Citroën 2CV Service Sécurité followed by the larger fire fighting vehicles. This 2CV is the AZU type, normally equipped with windows in the back. After the conversion it has become a kind of pickup. The power source of the car is a 425 cc engine with 12 hp. This model was produced from 1955 to 1963. These 2CVs are always heart-conquering cars.

Dance son jus

Every old-timer/classic enthusiast of the French masterpieces knows this concept, the French term for patina: Seeing the traces of old age in the car, dull paint, flash rust, scratches, minor damage. Nothing has changed for years, being able to see the life of the car, or rather: Patina, the shine that shows the traces of use. It will now be a careful consideration for the new owner whether the 2CV is to be restored or preserved, what do you think about this project?

  1. Do not renovate but stop further rust formation. A clear varnish over this: in this way one continues to see the “past life”, but a loss is avoided. However, the technical side must be maintained and possibly renewed (rubbers, ...). So save it for the future, and occasionally let it ride in an old-timer meeting. Surprised looks guaranteed!

  2. Great story again, see that you get a few of those fire extinguishers.

Yes, keep it that way and have fun touring

    greeting Hans

    • Long live the 2CV, especially this unique one. Preserve in the current state of service.
Good that it is preserved this way, a pity that a French car museum has this opportunity
      passed by!
