If you still want to buy a classic car, why not opt for a DAF? Marck answered this question from the DAF Club Nederland many years ago by purchasing his first DAF, now 35 years ago! He thinks membership of the DAF club is logical, if you have a DAF you want to share the feeling with people who know the same feeling. It is also good to be a member for parts supply, appraisals and insurance. Further explanation is then not necessary.
What should you know about Marck?
Thanks to enthusiasts like Marck, the DAF has not yet completely disappeared from the streets. He himself drives a DAF 55 as a daily car with a mileage of 370.000 kilometers. Talk about sustainability and environmental conservation! If you drive a DAF every day, you can count on a lot of sympathy. It is very pleasant that he is willing to share his enthusiasm. It has even resulted in more DAF drivers in his circle of friends. It is not possible to remain anonymous when you drive a DAF. You are being watched and sometimes mouths spontaneously fall open in surprise. All praise gives a very good feeling.
Contagious enthusiasm
Marck says “It all started for me when my brother bought a DAF 55. The car drove even better than my own Volvo 131, so I decided to buy a DAF 55 Combi together with my brother. When my youngest brother also bought a DAF, the collecting passion started. As a result, I now own a whole collection of DAFs, all cars with a story. In order to maintain the supply of parts, I scrapped a few DAFs. That was necessary to keep the good classics running. I am now active in the restoration of a DAF 31 that has returned to the Netherlands from France.”
Not a day without DAF
We believe that Marck should receive a subsidy for the preservation of Dutch heritage. He is more than proud of his driving collection which now consists of a 1964 Daffodil, finished in dark red with a black roof. Furthermore, a DAF 55, orange from year 1971, a DAF 55 Marathon Coupé from 1972, a DAF 44 Blue from 1967. And finally a DAF 55 Convertible from 1972. Self converted for outdoor recreation and the homeless feeling.
Sign of prosperity?
Even with this list, Marck is not 'exhausted' there is still a white DAF 55 from 1968 of the very first type and another 69 with a beautiful red interior. In addition to the mustard yellow (1969), two more of the same versions, but now and in a white and orange paint color. The mustard yellow coupé has another sister in red, both from 1970. Driving an old car is not yet a sign of prosperity, but it is if it is a DAF!
Only pluses
The negative image of the past is long gone. Now there is appreciation and respect for the technical ingenuity of the Gebroeders van Doorne. The DAF is great. The simple driveability of the drive immediately gave it a certain reputation, which put the car in a negative light. But no car was away so quickly after the traffic light turned green. We clearly recognize the plus points also as a classic. Not only is the car cheap to purchase and maintain. The parts supply is also still good, partly thanks to the DAF club. But such a variomatic also provides a unique driving experience.
The story is clear. At Marck, the past has a future again. It remains a pleasure to look at a DAF. And thanks to the enthusiasts, we still come across the clever poker. DAF is AF …and eternally young!
