Helmut Hujer is a former colleague of Harald Westenberger, the man behind the OCR Wankel story we just discussed. H&H worked at KHD (now Rolls-Royce Deutschland) between 1956 and '68, but they always kept in touch.

Horex was a motorcycle manufacturer founded in 1920 by Fritz Kleemann. In 1960 Horex stopped producing motorcycles.

Helmut is a big fan of Horex and just in time for HOREX's 100th anniversary, he released a booklet with 87 pages. And Horex? That was once a top quality brand. The legendary Regina with a 350cc single cylinder was the best-selling three-wheeler worldwide in 1952 with 20.400 units built. The brand disappeared into the mists of time when motorcycles were replaced by cars.

At the beginning of this century, the same thing happened with Horex as with other famous old brands: the brand was bought by people with a lot of money and ambition. But the Horex, equipped with a VW V6 engine, was positioned so high in the market that it faced little competition from Honda and the new Indian Jawa.

According to the vehicle finder, there are currently 105 Horex motorcycles in the Netherlands. The youngest of these is a 6 Horex Vr2014 roadster. It is likely in a vault and will appreciate in value as these types of high-end relaunch usually end up with investors. With a price of 35.000 euros, this is not something every motorcycle enthusiast can afford. It is clear that the VR6 will undoubtedly become a classic.

Helmut's tribute to the brand is in German and a must-have for fans of legendary German quality. The photo shows the author of the booklet in the sidecar, next to Saskia.

The retail price of Helmut's tribute to Horex is € 12, excluding shipping costs. We think Harald can tell you where it can be ordered: harald.westenberger@gmail.com. °

The same happens with Horex as with other brands and models in their jubilee years. Around the 100th birthday, asking prices start to rise…
