It is also typically human with Edzer: The desire to have something different from others. As an enthusiastic car man, he has always had a predilection for special and unusual cars, his Nissan Figaro is special and striking, that's for sure. 

This Nissan Figaro is from the time when the manufacturer released a series of retro models. Retro design: Something VW first did with the VW Beetle in 1998 and the Mini in 2001 and finally the Fiat 500 in 2008. So much later than the Nissan that came out in 1987 with the BE-1 as a retro car, followed by de Pao, Figaro and S Cargo. (A postmodern masterpiece.) The real connoisseurs of Japanese cars know these special models, each type with modern technology in a classic jacket. 

Immediately in love

Edzer: “The Nissan Figaro is a unique car for me. In itself very special because it has only been in production for a short time. That already gives it an exclusive value. Of course it is a youngtimer (it is already an over-30s!) and had to come across as a classic, and it certainly succeeded. The little thing looks great, just nice to see, the dashboard, the convertible roof. It has a 70s look to me. What is also important is that the technology is modern. Chassis and power source (1 liter with turbo) are completely up to date. The Nissan Figaro has long proven to be very reliable. I rarely see them in everyday traffic. I just use my collector's item for commuting.”

Thoroughbred enthusiast

Edzer is not a mechanic, but a cleaner. Not an asphalt eater, but a thoroughbred enthusiast of the funny, fun, mischievous, cuddly special retro Nissan Figaro. The enthusiasm never dies!

  1. That kek cart, the Nissan, is derived from the East German AWZ P70 Audi coupe, from 1956. AWZ in full Auto-Werke Zwickau was the original Audi factory, until Germany was divided into two nations. This model was also copied as Daihatsu and also as the Audi TT. From 1958, the famous Sachsenring Trabant was made in this Audi factory. Which will also be known to some.

    Very nice and innovative, copied from Harley-Davidson, for example, who released the Heritage in the mid-80s, so years earlier, and where it was difficult for a layman to see the difference between a 50s Hydra Glide and the Heritage that is still being produced. For me that was the beginning of the retro models.

  4. If Edsel now lights up a Cigaro in his Figaro, I think it would be a nice sight; definitely have to take the roof off!
    Kek cart, certainly less fun than the retro ones.

  5. We also had one, and if the steering wheel would be on the left and it would have had a manual gearbox, we would still have it.
    For these two reasons, my wife didn't drive it and had to leave at some point.
    For myself, I noticed that at some point I picked up the Figaro more often than the Amazon, which I have called my favorite car for 55 years.
    The Volvo C70 soft top that we now have as a convertible is a pleasant and more practical car, but has less emotional value for me.

  6. I've always thought this was such a nice little car. Successful from front to back. Too bad I never drove one. The Daihatsu Copen is also such a nice dwarf. Small cars but still beautiful designs. Why would you have to drive a whopper of a four-wheeler to transport yourself and a case of beer? 😉 They hint at an answer to the ever-cramping available space. The term 'kei car' will also gain importance here. In my opinion, the Figaro therefore fits into the future.

  7. The Figaro has a much nicer design than, for example, the modern beetle or the modern mini. With these last 2, it seems as if the designers could not agree to become a real retro model, or a half-hearted mix between retro and modern with a design monstrosity as a result.
    In terms of design, the Japanese are not inferior to the Italians, as evidenced by the design of the Figaro.
