You came across them on the coast and on the test, in the early 1980s. Suddenly they were gone again: The second generation Mitsubishi Galant.

The Japanese narrowly lost it to the Swabians at the time when it came to the first series-produced Turbo Diesel engine. The Mercedes-Benz W126 was just ahead of them in 1979. Unfortunately, we could not enjoy it because the thick Benz turned out to be only intended for export. So we were dependent on the Galant. Anyone who remembers it will remember: the heavily sooty oil sticks with abgasturbo flew from you. They simply could not be kept up with in a Golf I diesel or Mercedes 200 D. As soon as they came, as fast as they went. Flock to the eternal hunting grounds, because body-wise, the engineers at Mitsubishi still had a lot to learn. Decades passed and every now and then another one comes to the surface. Take this Meisterblue 2.3 Turbo diesel from 1982 with only 81.000 km on the clock. Power steering is included in the deal. For barely five thousand euros for sale a few years ago at the Mitsubishi dealer in Appingedam.
