Summer 1985, after a pleasant evening we decided that it might be nice to start a magazine. Well why not? There were more people who had ever done that and we had to succeed too, right? No problem. So we went to work, after a month of thorough planning, looking for contacts and arranging the printing, finally the very first issue of the brand new magazine about classic cars and motorbikes was ready in October. Of course, as simple hobbyists, we had not eaten cheese from publishing a magazine. So…
... with no fewer than two cars packed with blades and one for the sake of certainty in Ulft, we went to the Oldtimer Fair in the Autotron at that time in Drunen. In our youthful enthusiasm we were convinced that the magazines brought to the classic-loving man and woman in no time and we were worried that we might not even have enough copies available. The reality, of course, turned out to be different, because even in those days tens of thousands of copies of a specialized magazine were not immediately sold in the Netherlands. Nevertheless, more than a thousand subscriptions were already listed in the first few months and that was not even so wrong.
All this is exactly thirty years ago. This month has Auto Motor Klassiek has reached its classical age. Because thirty years we still think classical, just like the Germans and the Belgians. We are still brooding on nice things that we are all going to do this year, and we have also devised a nice evening. But we are of course always open to brilliant ideas.
