Purchasing classics there

Are Ford families happier than other families? According to Popke Hoekstra, that is at least as true if there is a classic Ford such as this Ford Taunus GXL Coupé 2,3 in family ownership. This makes it clear that - despite his profession as a BMW mechanic - he is addicted to Ford.

“I've had Ford blood running since I was a teenager,” says Popke. His first love was a 20 Ford 1969 M TS, which he enjoyed for 6 years. He bought this Ford Taunus GXL Coupé in 1999 and has been in his possession for 21 years now. “And I will never get rid of this again, partly because I would have a fight with Agatha - my wife. Her father was a real Taunus fan and bought a new one every 2 years. ” Sons Keimpe and Tjeerd also carry the Ford DNA thanks to their father. The Ford really stole his heart. “It has a very safe handling, a sporty and smooth appearance. It's just a nice looking car. A sporty interior, small steering wheel, round clocks, ”the enthusiastic argument is almost unstoppable.

Original Dutch car

Popke bought the car from the second owner. The man was now an advanced age and had already parked the car indoors for 17 years. This was evident from the good condition of the car. And original Dutch Ford Taunus GXL Coupé, unwelded and very well documented. The maintenance booklets, inspection reports and demonstrably 100.000 km walked. Every year the car has been appraised, whereby the appraiser became enthusiastic about the originality and completeness of the car. The more than a thousand kilos six-cylinder was once new cost 15.000 guilders.

Gathering

Popke is now used to groups of curious people who stand around the car when he goes to park. He will not lift the technical baptismal plot of the car, but will proudly tell about his elegantly lined Ford Taunus GXL Coupé. And… which he also enjoys when he is chased by classic enthusiasts who want to capture his pet animal on the sensitive plate. (And that was of course also the case with us.)

Advice

To the Auto Motor Klassiek readers Popke has another special recommendation: Become aware of what makes you feel good. "For example, if I need something to cheer me up, then visiting my garage is a stepping stone to the feeling of happiness." Can it be more beautiful ??

  1. nous habitons en france nous en avons 2 comme celle ci 1 en v6 2.0L 71 1 en 4 cylindres 1.6 de 72 + une ford 26 M V6 2.6 L de 1969

  2. Too bad we can't see the interior. This differs in this version from the normal neat straightforward Taunussen. They had a sleek, straight dashboard that was divided into rectangles. A bit boring actually.

The GLX was not boring. It had a wildly downward sloping dashboard (a bit like the Opel Commodore, Rekord and Ascona at the time) with a wood veneer strip in a large arc on top and very low-lying clocks so that your passenger could not see how fast it went. Step into a GLX and step into another dimension!

  3. Aha, a man after my own heart. For me, my Citroen CX2500 Diesel that. Certainly now with all the Corona Hoopla around us, a ride CX is pure therapy for me. It doesn't matter which brand gives you that feeling. Fortunately, I still see a lot of really nice old stuff on the road here, and it is still allowed. There one of these days Greta will probably also push her self-knitted broomstick between the spokes, otherwise the Tesla and Prius army will take over.

  4. Great car !!
The beautifully running V6 in the front.
In terms of constellation one of the most beautiful Ford engines too.
I myself have driven the newly developed 2.9 V6 in Cologne in my Scorpio. Resembled that 2,3 but it was not.
Ran a bit coarser but nevertheless a heaven of an engine. That Scorpio is the car I've enjoyed the most so far. Smooth torque, fast and lots of space. Going on holiday with the little kiddos was great. I gladly took the measured fuel consumption because you got a lot of driving pleasure in return.
