Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli are the winners of the 1000 Miglia 2021. After almost 1800 km through some of Italy's most beautiful cities, they won the race with the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport from 1929. Below you can read a short report and of course we also have a lot of pictures.

Andrea Vesco already has three wins to his name, all with the same car. After the successes first with Andrea Guerini and then, last year, with his father Roberto, he won this year together with his co-driver Fabio Salvinelli.

It was an exciting race this year with the candidate winners switching places even in the last hour. So many congratulations to the winners for having fought well, making this year's race incredibly exciting right up to the last minute.

Changing weather conditions

The edition was characterized by good weather, sometimes heavy due to the summer heat and by a tough course because for the first time three mountain passes, the Cisa, Futa and Raticosapass, had to be conquered.

Of the 375 cars in the race, 341 crossed the finish line. Second was Andrea Luigi Belometti and Gianluca Bergomi in a 1929 Lancia Lambda Spider Casaro.

Third was Gianmario Fontanella and Anna Maria Covelli with a 1927 Lancia Lambda Casaro. Silvia Marini and Lucia Filippelli again managed to win the “Coppa delle Dame 1929” in a 2021 Bugatti.

Also an excellent achievement for the Dutch crew of John and Chelly Houtkamp, parents-in-law of Silvia Marini, who were the first foreign participants to win the Nations Cup. The duo took eighth position in one Alfa Romeo 1750 Super Sport from 1929.

Fortunately, due to the good weather conditions, there were no significant accidents except for some damage to the car. The big unlucky person was Marc Behaegel who had to give up the fight after fifteen minutes because of a jammed engine of his beautiful Fiat 1100 S MM 'Gonnone from 1947.

Jochen Mass and Jacky Ickx were also back. Each in a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.

There was a strong international presence, in fact 50% of the crews come from all over the world: after Italy, the largest number of participants came from the Netherlands (146) followed by Germany (80). Alfa Romeo was the most represented brand, with more than 50 cars participating

To further enhance the international atmosphere of the 1000 Miglia, this year's 1000 Miglia Experience UAE 2021 will be held in the Middle East for the first time in winter, coinciding with the celebration of the United Arab Emirates' 50th anniversary. It was therefore notable that two teams from the UAE took part, accompanied by the Dubai police car, in a striking Mercedes SLS.

Alberto Ghelfi and Giordano Mozzi won the Ferrari Tribute with a Ferrari 488 Pista of 2020. The award ceremony took place at the Mille Miglia Museum in Brescia.

In order to make the Mille Miglia "the most beautiful race in the world" even more famous and to protect the world, the Automobile Club of Brescia, in collaboration with the Municipality of Brescia and the Regione Lombardia, has taken steps to obtain UNESCO recognition as an Intangible Cultural Heritage .

“Crossing the future” was the theme of the 1000 Miglia 2021 and the challenge was to have electric cars driving the '1000 Miglia Green' in addition to the old-timers, which have completed the entire route without any problems.

  1. I was last at the MM in 2017 and when I see this fantastic photo report it starts to itch again. Hopefully next year everything will be back to normal and I will definitely try to be here again.

  2. I compare the models of the old cars with the current can. Many modern cars are hideous. I am interested in the 'old' design with modern technology. No snail's pace vehicles, no screens in the car. A car should invite you to discover countries and make long journeys.
Tours such as the Mille Miglia should become more popular. Other trips should be mothballed.
A dream for the time being, but with dreams the most beautiful results can be found. And dreaming is very cheap.

  3. I'm more into two-wheelers myself, but when I see this, and especially in those old Italian cities, it's fun to your toes.
    Awesome.
