Nice for banger races

A few years ago we saw this Mini. Neat in the paint and equipped with large protective cages. The driver of this "beautiful" car was at least twelve and drove very well, as his proud father knew.

On the photo you can see the piles of leaflets that are on the hood. Father and son tried to make others enthusiastic about their hobby. What was that? The so-called "Banger racing". This is a battle with old cars where they are completely driven into each other. Hence the protective structures that are mounted on the cars. The art at this fun event is to keep driving. Once you're out of the race it's over. But the last person to ride has won. The participant fields look very varied. Large Jaguars compete against other cars, including this small Mini. It may be small, but the maneuverability and front-wheel drive in combination with a hand brake on the rear wheels make this a hard-to-beat cart. It is a pity that it all takes place in England. Otherwise I would probably have said goodbye to some of my cars in this way. Not everyone finds that responsible. The classic car owners think it is a shame that this happens, but the drivers see it differently. After all, if the cars are “beyond repair” and you need something more than just some tender loving care, then this is a great way to say goodbye to your car. Do it as spectacularly as possible and let it be filmed or photographed by some good friends. Do not think that this is a cheap hobby. There are participants who spend 700 pounds alone on the purchase of a suitable “banger” and then spend another 800 pound to get the car moving and fit for the purpose for which it was purchased.
