Purchasing classics there

On Sunday 11 June 2017 becomes the 5e edition of the annual Silverlegrally in Wolvega. The rally has developed into a promising event with a good starting point. The proceeds from the classic rally event go to three charities. The first edition of this rally took place in 2013, and this classic event is now enjoying growing popularity. The start is as usual on the center square in Wolvega, capital of the municipality of Weststellingwerf.

The organization reports that for that reason too, the rally will have a different character than other years. For example, there is now one class with enough challenges for experienced rally drivers, but in such a way that it is good for less experienced riders. A new route system and surprises along the way are also integrated into the route and that is why it will be a day to remember. Business Rally Events from Drachten provides the route within the beautiful, varied and water-rich Frisian landscape, which will undoubtedly be enlivened by classics of various backgrounds and an arsenal of various brands.

Charities of the Silverlegrally

The proceeds from the fifth Silverlegrally are collected to donate to three charities. This concerns the North Sea Disease Foundation, the Food Bank and Gered Gereedschap Wolvega. The first charity, the North Sea Disease Foundation, is committed to the extremely rare North Sea Disease. 25 cases are known worldwide. Furthermore, only 10 people in the Netherlands have this disease. One of them is Luna, a six-year-old girl from Leeuwarden. Her parents founded the Foundation with the aim of enabling scientific research for the treatment of North Sea disease.

Food bank Weststellingwerf and Gered Gereedschap

The Food Bank Weststellingwerf is the second charity. This organization supports families who, due to various causes, hardly have sufficient financial means in society, with a biweekly food package. The Weststellingwerf Food Bank also works closely with local politics and other aid organizations. The third charity is Gered Gereedschap. Wolvega also has one of the largest workshops of this organization in the Netherlands. With the inspiring dedication of 35 volunteers, old tools are saved and prepared. It is then sent to projects in developing countries. But to continue to make this good work possible, money is needed for parts and transport of the tools. That is why this charity is also recommended.

Name giver “Silverleg”

The rally is named after the explorer and the founder of New York: Pieter Stuyvesant. Pieter was born in the Peperga (Weststellingwerf). He became governor of Curaçao in 1643. In a fight with the Spaniards, his leg was shot off and he got a wooden leg, which he had nailed with silver jewelry. That's how he got his nickname: Silverleg.
