Thick clouds of smoke in the cabin in no time ...
We have already drawn your attention to checking the fuel lines and connections of those lines in your classic car more than regularly. The quality of today's petrol is so poor that flexible pipes, but also gaskets in gas pumps and carburetors, are spontaneous.

In the latter two cases, in the most favorable case, it will 'sweat' or worse 'leak'. In the first case, the flammable liquid will spray over the engine. One spark is enough to get things going. That also happened with the Lotus Elite Climax pictured here, who, together with his proud owner, had just enjoyed the historic racing spectacle during the Le Mans Classic. Because of the polyester body, such an Elite cannot rust, but it can burn. Fortunately, the owner was quick enough and bystanders were available to help him with the rescue operation. The Lotus was spared, but there is enough work to do to keep both the car and the owner off the street for the time being!

Adequate performance by owner and bystanders saved this Elite from a certain death!

  1. It is worth mentioning that nowadays normal gasoline (95 ron) contains about 5% athanol. The emerging E10 contains 10%. This ethanol dissolves the plastic parts of old cars (and Goldwings from 1982?). By the way, on 98 (and also available 102 at a number of fire zone stations) does your bike run a lot nicer?
