Purchasing classics there

When you step into the world of this collector, you will be amazed from one surprise to the next – from luxury cars to exclusive miniature models. He collected absolutely everything that has to do with cars: also motorcycles, spare parts and special posters - actually too many to mention. We focus here on the dwarf cars, which have clearly been cherished and cared for for many years. The Henri Malartre Automobile Museum is located in Lyon.

Henri Malartre was a true pioneer

The founder of the museum was a pioneer in the preservation of driving heritage. The museum opened its doors to the public in the 60s and was an immediate success. Wanting his collection to be preserved for future generations, he sold it to the city of Lyon. Henri Malartre passed away in 2005.

No estimate of value

Henri Malartre's collection also includes many exclusive brands with corresponding price tags. There is also a museum workshop where daily maintenance takes place. In the museum shop you will find the famous French Norev miniature cars, as well as postcards and posters. The museum also hosts fun events and activities, such as the experience of driving a vintage car, allowing visitors to experience the thrill of driving cars from days gone by. In short, there are plenty of reasons to visit the museum.

Pearls

You will recognize some gems, but most dwarf cars - even in France - will be unknown to the general public. It is clear that Henri had the talent to find and preserve these special models. Do you have the talent to recognize the brands?

  1. For those interested, I have tried to translate Marc's response:

“Thank you for this nod (short look) to this museum. Playground for those who live nearby.

With separate cars, such as a prototype of the 2CV (there is also one in North Holland*), Hitler's car (no, not the Beetle, but a big Mercedes) and the car built by a farrier (I don't know which car is meant here).

Mr. Malatre's occupation was scrap dealer (fer = iron)

    * not so long ago three prototypes of the Duck were found in a hayloft somewhere in the north of France, I think. One of them ended up at the auction where bidding was enthusiastic. In the end, two tenacious bidders remained: Michelin (yes, the tire factory that owned Citroën after that went bankrupt and Renault bought it out of sympathy for André Citroën, with which he had a healthy rivalry, did not want to take over after a request from the minister) and a Dutch bicycle dealer. It was fierce and finally the hammer fell on the final offer of ... that bicycle repairman.

Looks like a nice museum by the way, thanks for the tip. Goes high on my list.

the profession of Mr Malatre is a ferrailleur
