Purchasing classics there

A beautiful one Citroën This beautiful ID 19 deserves to be put in the spotlight Citroën. For Auke, this is the ideal classic car, not just special, but very special, with optimal styling. Auke, a lover of vintage cars and classic vehicles, is the intended chairman of a friends club with 60 cars in the Northern Netherlands. The Auto Veterans Club: De Fryske Wâlden (AVC) mainly wants to make contacts with enthusiastic owners of classic cars. The friends each enjoy themselves in their own way: one enjoys going on rides with the club, the other enjoys cleaning or tinkering.

The history of the ID in a nutshell

Every Citroënenthusiast knows the spectacular introduction of the DS series in 1955. It's more about this now Citroen ID 19, about the thrill of ownership and the background story of how this “voiture magnifique” came into possession. The experts know that the Citroën ID was introduced in 1957 as a cheaper and simpler version with the same engine size but less power. “La fabuleuse” Citroën has many fanatical owners; perhaps there are even more in the Netherlands than in France, at least three in the AVC club. It is not a daily use, but a trendy hobby use on nice days.

Francophile way of life

The photos prove it: not a wrinkle can be seen, even in this almost 60-year-old, thanks to a complete restoration. We will look back and Auke will describe in his own words the personal history of his working life with cars that (almost) all had the "double chevron" on the nose.

Under the spell of Citroën

Auke: “It all started around the age of 18e year of life, the search for adventure and excitement meant the purchase of the first 2 CV Azam, and a second one would soon follow. But in the eighties, after technical training and a permanent job, the idiosyncratic BX types came into the picture, of which I have ridden quite a few. The Xantias arrived when the work required long distances, later followed by various versions of the C.5. The different Citroëns added color to my personal car history!”

Glory from the past

Auke: “The story of my aunt who had one is surprising Citroën Dyane drove (18-AV-55). After her death, the car remained in the family, and I thought it would be a good idea to take over the car and later use it as a hobby car. It was a pristine car with a pristine chassis, but the rust had affected large parts of the sheet metal. She (a Dyane is female) looked a bit lost in the garage, but rescue was possible, even after I had let 'ma belle voiture' stand still for 15 years. The rescue came in 2003 when I completely dismantled the car and gave it a second life at long intervals over 8 years.”

A very special bond with the Citroën ID 19

This Citroën After trading in the Dyane, ID 19 from 1965 came into the picture, fully restored and ready to drive. This car with a visible past put him in a state of innocent and pleasurable rapture. A 5 cm thick folder with invoices, inspections, and a photo report of the restoration gave Auke and Martje a lot of confidence. From a working life of 45 years with many modern and new Citroëns to a hobby life with the ID 19. There is a very special bond with the car among enthusiasts of classics and vintage cars; it is a family member or sometimes a loved one. With Auke and Martje it has been that special bond for a lifetime Citroën. Can it be more beautiful?

  1. These kinds of reports encourage me to finish the DSuper that has been locked up in the garage for 17 years...
Beautiful car, I'm personally not into 'ties' but the color is fantastic

  2. Next Thursday I will get new spheres mounted in the front. They are still the
original spheres that my 82 CX Diesel came with. Things were starting to get a little bouncy. I bought “Comfort Spheres” ($80.00 US) to make the CX feel like a DS again.
I have had a soft spot for it since 1956 Citroen, and thankfully that never changed.
Just a few more years, and we can go to the scrap heap together.

  3. Can also be detrimental. I once took a turn at a leisurely pace and there was a nasty hole there. Seen and felt nothing. Not in the car and not in the steering wheel, but the right front tire is completely in tatters. You only notice that a few meters away. Great suspension, you float. Never had such a nice car again. Why is that no longer possible? (Too expensive, I know).

  4. Those IDs are great. I remember a cousin who bought such an ID about 20 years ago. We went for a ride. Without slowing down over such a harassing threshold. I literally turned around as if I hadn't dreamed that threshold by chance. But no, we actually drove over it without feeling anything significant. That suspension. Awesome!!
When I look under the hood of the blue beauty, I see a place near the wheel arch where the brown plague is trying to establish a bridgehead. That's either treatment or crying, I'm afraid. But boy, what a beauty it is!!!
