If you look at Erik and Marjan's DAF collection, old times come to life. You smell the scent of the classic DAFs, in fact you just feel the life of that time. Together they speak with passion when it comes to their classic beauties. It shows in their voice. The pleasure with which they tell about their hobby. Their enthusiasm about their collection: DAF 31 Daffodil, the Kalmar DAF and the DAF 66 YA and of course the very beautiful DAF 55 T Coupé from 1971 is real. People instinctively sense that.
The key of satisfaction
Erik: “My colleague's son had a DAF 66 that I could take over to use as a second car. Without any technical experience, but with perseverance I got this smart stick through the MOT. Unfortunately not for long, because the following year was the final rejection for safe use on the road.”
The new quest
“Of course there had to be another DAF,” Erik continues. “I was looking for a DAF 55 Coupé (the most beautiful model for me). The search was successful, although the nasty rust had set in. I therefore decided to dismantle the car, take care of welding and give it a new coat of paint. My preference was for Akwalo blue. The color name was only used in the 1969/1970 model years, and my Daf is from 1971… It just became a complete restoration, the suspension of the variomatic was reinforced, the 1100 cc Renault engine was replaced by a 1400 engine from the Volvo 340. To make it completely technically sound, a lot was replaced, such as the brakes, but also the hoses and cables, too many to mention.”
The great enjoyment
Erik and Marjan have been enjoying the DAF 55 T Coupé for many years now, it is simply pure beauty. It's a time machine, you get in… and immediately you're back in time. And in addition, the car is not spared, it is driven a lot. After all, that's what it's meant for. When you drive a DAF you have friends, that proof is proven with every ride. Many nice contacts, and also many friends within the DAF club. For many, the DAF is still a feast of recognition. Memories of what it was like in days gone by. It's great to relive that, isn't it?
Beautiful story, That's just enjoying so much passion. Wishing you a lot of safe kilometers and keep enjoying.
Superb restoration, congratulations.
But as a Fleming, it always strikes me how many Dutch old-timers are equipped with a tow bar. I would always remove it right away.
It was also a bit of a status symbol at the time.
Nice car, don't complain. When I saw it I think back to my mother-in-law, the 33 was responsible, but when she bought a 55..... Traffic light green, gas on it and by the time she drove 90 within built-up areas, her foot went back slightly. LIFELY DANGEROUS!
Super thing, really the only pity is that the marathon exhaust is not easy to see dd exhaust, but yes, The Best of Both Worlds
A beautiful car, especially in this color! The conversion to 1400 cc seems very nice to me. It's buoys that it doesn't match the year of construction, it's about the fun you have with it! Wishing you many safe kilometers.
what a fuss about the color and the engine, who cares? It's really nice that she
explore the world with it. I caught myself smiling out loud when I
saw the towbar, but immediately understood that it is a bumper protector.
Nice car, very special. Don't let André van Duin drive it!
Greetings from a still very wet YVR,
Bass.
Cars are for driving and having fun. Don't care what anyone else thinks about your car, you should have fun with it.
Beautiful car enjoy it
The color is not original for this year and the engine does not belong to the 55, it belongs to an 1100cc
I have a Mercedes Benz. 1964 a so-called fence floss there I used V12 AMG with automatic transmission, navigation, air conditioning, electric windows front and rear, cruise etc, all nicely hidden and usable and then you see a fat Audi at the traffic lights and you pull it out completely, look at those faces, precious, so it is not original from factory but all parts from MB, drives better than many Mercedes and I am not ashamed of it
My 2CV4 is really no longer equipped with the 435CC engine, which may make it less original, but I can (reasonably) keep up with traffic and that counts more for me.
What engine did you put in it Raymond? I have a 2CV6 club, so a 600 cc and it runs very well in traffic.
Regards, Ben
Ben, is that a 602 cc S6 engine? These were (I thought) mounted in 84, 85 and 86 (partly) in the 2 CV 6.
The most beautiful and best car / model in DAF history. I don't understand why the 1400, it hardly makes it faster (from my own experience) A 55 must remain pure!
Gerard Nijpels
le engine de Volvo 340 était aussi d'origine Renault…..
A DAF55 with a 1400 engine. I assume this has greatly benefited the liveliness!
The light blue color arouses a strong allergy in me. But hey, everyone has their own way. It fits perfectly in the image of the time and so it can really get my approval. It is therefore such a beauty of a car. Very nicely done and that deserves only compliments!!
