Purchasing classics there

Sometimes you have to look twice before you see something. A Jeep from WWII, which was recently restored to perfection, was at the Silfhout auto parts trade. This time there was a XNUMXs Škoda. However? Time for a second look. The Škoda Coach looked a bit steroid. And exuberant, with a dash of Patricia Paaij and Patty Brard and a touch of Liberace on speed. Or as Rambo in drag. Party! Or "FOEI!"

Converting. Is that allowed?

How reprehensible it is or not to convert, update or pimp classics? When birthdays may be celebrated again, we will be able to talk about this in evenings. But the tension between 'factory original' and 'time original' represents the gap between the RekELIJKen and the Preciezen.

Škoda 1101 and 1102

Anyway: In Den Beginne there were the Škoda 1101 and 1102. The Tudors series. These were passenger and light commercial vehicles produced between 1946 and 1952.

After the Second World War, the Škoda started production again on a small scale of the pre-war models Rapid and Skoda Popular. That harking back to the pre-war models was common. New developments in the civilian car field were very rarely conceived between 1940-1945. And when that happened, it happened on the sly. Production quickly got back on track. The Škoda technicians also secretly already had an improved version of the Popular on the shelf. At the end of 1945, the first new generation of cars left the factory under the type designation 1101.

In the meantime, the factory had been nationalized and production increasingly concentrated on one model. This made it possible to increase the number of cars produced. Because the masses were crying out for motorization (and the government for foreign exchange).

Many 1946s were built from 1101

The second model in 1949 was the Škoda 1102 with control gear. Externally, the 1102 could be recognized by a heavier grille with five horizontal bars. A total of more than 70D copies of both models have been produced. Various Škoda Sport and Škoda Supersport racing specials have been created based on the Škoda 1101.

The car still had the chassis of its predecessor made of welded steel U-profiles and a central tube. The new body, however, was in the style of the 40s with headlamps integrated into the front wings and a grille with chrome cross members. The design was reminiscent of the bodies of former Ford models from the US of A. The familiar water-cooled four-cylinder overhead valve engine with a capacity of 1089 cc was taken over from the predecessor, but the power increased to 32 hp. The gearbox was flanged directly to the engine from that moment on, the previous transaxle construction was abandoned.

The chassis was equipped with a central lubrication system and hydraulic shock absorbers were used. In the carriage, the front seat was made in one piece. A sleeping place could be made with the folding backrest. Various body types were made. The 1102 was also available as a four-door sedan.

And then we get this list:

  • Chassis / chassis and V8 engine Chevrolet on registration.
  • The body has been widened and is originally from a 1102 Skoda 1950 Tudor Coupe.
  • So the body is made of steel, not plastic.
  • The Chevy was converted into a Hotrod between 1988 and 1994 and RDW approved for Dutch registration.
  • The 350cu V8 engine has been completely overhauled, tuned and chromed.
  • The V8 is inhaled via Edelbrock big intake (chrome) and Edelbrock 4-Barrel carburetion.
  • Exhalation is via headers and dual exhaust manifolds with cherry bombs.
  • Behind the case springs on a leaf spring with inflatable highjackers.
  • The machine has a floor shifter.
  • The Skoda / Chevy noble bastard has a steering and brake booster.
  • The suicide doors make him a brutal 50s Hot Rod.
  • The car is painted in deep blue with flakes and the top side is pearl white.
  • The headliner is new with original 50s fabric.
  • The thick rims and tires give this creation the look of a puppy with extra large feet.

Besides the fact that the car of a fellow animal owner is for sale (you can request the address of the seller), the question is of course:

Remodel a classic. Is that allowed?
We jubilantly say "YES!"

  1. Original.
Well, folder original, time original or original as in “no second of”.
    It can be widely explained.
As long as the owner likes or likes it, right?
    Who pays decides.
AND if you don't like it, you look the other way.

(for that reason I zap myself completely blankly in the evening 😉)

  2. Still fun, a wolf in sheep's clothing! And idd, al div. times done; from line 6 to V8, from 90 hp to 200+. Just don't forget to do the chassis and brakes first….

  3. always nice a 350 with four venturi and a turbo hydramatic, it will take you to the end of the world and back again.
But, it doesn't look like that Skoda from my childhood.

  4. Well, that fits the millimeter and it will not be easy to adjust the valves on this engine and replace the spark plugs. Very well done! And well, there are still plenty of original ones to be found. In those countries cars used to be kept on their feet for a very long time. Nowadays these classics are very sought after in the Czech Republic. Just like old Tatras and even a real mass product like the Jawa motorcycles. You used to buy it for next to nothing, now you really don't.

The arms factories in Pilzen (renamed Reichswerke Hermann Göring) were completely destroyed and the (forced) workers killed more than a thousand, but the car factory in Mlada Boleslav was restored relatively quickly. As a result, Skoda was one of the first brands that were quickly available again after the war, it was also a much-sold brand in the Netherlands in the 40s. Skoda was nationalized in 1948 and, along with all the other Czechoslovak vehicle manufacturers (and there were quite a few!), Came under the Motokov umbrella, which would remain that way until 1990.

In any case, a very old car brand that has survived absolutely everything.

    • He died. After a few years of use, a party came up that recorded the name. I would not have done that. And then I was not allowed to use my name anymore. Tis how it works in a constitutional state

  5. A really nice hotrod compliments for the builder.
I'm actually a big fan of the original, but this is really cool.
I may say this more often!

  6. Everything is allowed, but tastes differ. If the bodywork had gone to the scrap heap it would have been gone, now there is a story to which you can say no and all parties fascinate.
