Purchasing classics there

burnt Jaguar Mk II"Collateral damage" is the military term for unplanned collateral damage. For example: "We blew up the bridge but a school-making bus drove on". The bus is the Collateral damage. And the kids and the supervisors.
This phenomenon also occurs in the insurance country. For example, there are many classic lovers who dream about their classic at night while they would have a serious right to nightmares. The question is: where is your classic and how is it insured?

burnt Jaguar Mk IIWe have mentioned it before. But now we have an example with name and by name.

What most people don't know is that their signed and insured classic ... Just not insured if he is parked somewhere in-out or at home

Property insurance excludes standard motor vehicles from coverage. However, there is the possibility of insuring an address where a restoration is completed (and also the individual parts) insured for fire / theft. A so-called "content insurance". Consult your local asurance specialist!

There is also the option of insuring against fire theft. The cover then applies to one fixed address and can already be arranged for a few tens, at appraisal value and therefore with a valid appraisal report.

Our experience is that it is also possible to convert an existing all-risk coverage for the winter period to a limited body. Collision and vandalism damage are not covered there. In addition to fire theft, burglary and storm damage are also insured on such a policy.
burnt Jaguar Mk IIIf you break down the premium, the third-party premium is only a fraction of the full hull premium. The older the car, the lower the benefit for suspending liability coverage.

Most enthusiasts, despite suspending license plates (eg postponing inspection in winter period or saving road tax if applicable), therefore cover the liability coverage in combination with fire-theft or limited hull or full hull.

burnt Jaguar Mk IIInsurers who say they do not know these options say this in order to avoid a lot of administrative hassle in the case of often-advantageous classic insurance.

In any case, it is not impossible and complicated to insure your classic car during the winter storage against any dangers and for an acceptable premium.

And because all wisdom comes afterwards, that is the knowledge that AMK reader Frank 't Jong wants to share with you. His car has not been on fire, but has been close to it. Too close. There were only a few walls in between. In the meantime, the trauma about his burnt Jag is so great that he wants to give him up for adoption. Or want to trade.

    • Certainly, only many people suspend their entire policy in the winter period (the WA and Casco part) and do not realize that there is no coverage in the event of a fire.
