viggos odenseIn the East of the country, the phenomenon of 'friends clubs' is still part of life. Friends clubs are informal and the friends do things together in a loose context. Simply from all sorts of things. Going out for dinner, going out for an evening, making a party car for the Zwarte Cross ...

And that those festivities eat well and drink a lot? That is also part of the tradition. A few kilometers across the border, schnitzels are after all folk food number 1 and Grolsch is after all on their side of the IJssel for good reason.

Mark Hartman, Björn Angenent, Patrick Roes, Kevin Lenting and Martijn van Stiphout are such a group of friends. They decided on an excursion to Odense and Copenhagen.

And the ideal vehicle to go to the North was of course the 240 Volvo 1983 GLE from Björn.

The five heroes got on 29 April and blew 682 kilometers to Odense. There they plunged into the cultural nightlife and ended up in café Viggos where the beer is served in half liters. When 10 consumes half a liter, "1 dato", the drinker gets a glass with his name engraved on it. The follow-up scores are recorded on the same glass.

The list leader currently has 542 dates in his account. That is 5.420 liters of beer and that top performance has cost him that number times three = 16.260 euros.

An amount where you can buy a nice classic.

The half-liter mugs hang on the ceiling like trophies.

The day in Copenhagen was used to sniff some culture. The return trip from Copenhagen was a true celebration because the explorers drove up to eight times side by side with a red-haired young lady who was not used to paying so much attention.

And the Volvo? He attracted attention and did his job as you would expect from a Volvo 240 GLE from 1983. He ran the full 1.500 kilometer without any problems and was considerably less thirsty than his passengers.

The five-man look back on the journey with satisfaction.
