MGB exists 50 year !!!

By: Koos Sol
The old-timer for the small exhibition has turned 50 this year. He or she has many brothers and sisters, and one is not yet the other, but they were seriously looked at at the exhibition organized by museum photographer Natalie Hoogmoed and multidisciplinary artist Sander Schoonbeek.

In the former workshop of the Army Museum at the Paardenmarkt in Delft, they showed how you can also look at this traditional English car. Natalie does that with an eye for detail, and luckily they are still on cars from days gone by. Sander is more interested in the very last phase of the existence of the four-wheelers: close to the end. The visitors found it strange and interesting at the same time. For once no still life or cows in the meadow, but iron, for some old iron, portrayed in a separate way.

Of course there was also a 'real' MGB to show off, right under the British flag. Not the most famous cabrio variant, but the more distinguished GT version.

Natalie Hoogmoed, initiator and regular user of the atmospheric Paardenmarkt explains how she came up with the idea. “I am a car enthusiast myself, but not a modern car. Uniform sausage has become, all in the same colors and designed from the wind tunnel. Just look at a photo from the XNUMXs. How varied was the street scene then and how boring it is now. That is why it is a good idea to bring this MG forward again. This special copy has deserved that. I also made a wink to the non-real, the miniature MGB. ”

Sander Schoonbeek could not be there, he lives and works in Scotland, but four of his works were neatly arranged in the atmospheric shed. His theme is the decay of the cars, left on the meadow, in the woods or at an old barn. And that depicted in screen prints that seem to come out of the ground.

A selection of the work can still be viewed during Open Atelier Route, which the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and Kunstpost Mariahoeve jointly organize on Sunday 30 September in Haagse Hout The Hague.
