Purchasing classics there

A story about enthusiasts, restorers, hobbyists, mechanics and car collectors with Stephaan in the leading role. Stephaan is closely connected to the Kempen village of Eersel, where a large group of car enthusiasts have an above-average interest in classics and old-timers. Yet the story begins with the FIAT 1100 R from 1968, with only 64.000 kilometers on the clock.

The history of the FIAT 1100 R

Stephaan is the third owner of this beautiful FIAT 1100 R. Surprisingly, the entire history has been recorded, from the purchase invoice at the FIAT/Lancia dealer in Boxmeer to the complete maintenance history of the second owner. Now Stephaan is blessed with an extra sense and he has the talent to track down special classics. Together with his two key friends he bought one Alfa Romeo Sprint from 1963, which they will also restore together all by themselves.

The FIAT 1100 R must now make way, because it has too many classics. (An image of the pleasant addiction: two Lancias, one Alfa 1750 Berlina and a Alfa Spider from 1962.) The love for Italian design remains, but the small Italian family car can go to a new enthusiast, with jealous looks guaranteed. Every enthusiast will recognize the preference for a certain brand or type. You choose the car that suits you, in which identity, emotion and passion play a major role.

The story of the lovers

The Automobielclub Kempisch Klassiek (AKK) has about 60 members and even publishes its own club magazine: In den oil! The club consists of enthusiasts with a wide variety of cars. It is a local club that makes summer drives with cars over 30 years old. Only the hobby counts. Enjoying the hobby together is what binds, in addition to the fun and friendships. Owning a classic or old-timer gives a lifestyle full of joy and promotes social contacts.

Restorers/key makers

Stephaan: “I belong to the category of restorers and tinkerers. My two key friends and I tinker with our cars together every Friday. We drink coffee, smoke a cigar and try to make the world a better place. That doesn't work in the end, but something has been installed. My preference is for the Italian thoroughbreds, such as the Alfa Romeo and Lancia from the 50s and 60s, all classic pearls. It's cars that stir something in me, special memories of my childhood that give warm feelings. I therefore hope that the FIAT 1100 R will go to a true enthusiast, so that they can also experience a piece of happiness.”

  1. My father had 1100 from 1967. We took it to Spain and Italy on vacation. Never had engine problems on the road. Unfortunately, the front fenders started to show blisters. My father sanded away the blisters like crazy, repainted fillers.. You didn't have spray cans at the time, it was impossible. He kept the car for another 2 years. Never again a Fiat, his credo was reliable, but they rust like crazy. Yet he couldn't resist. In 1974 he bought a Fiat again. He also had a 128 for 6 years and enjoys it a lot, by the way, that was a very nice car to see.

  2. Nice your comments. The Fiat deserves that.
It has since been sold to a new enthusiastic owner. Who is happy with it. That's what I also had in mind: a lover.

    • Hello Bass,

My nice Fiat was already sold before this piece came out. But if you want to call for car chat or something else: that's allowed. 06 15001100. And those are two legendary FIATs. 😉

  3. The Fiat 1100R was also my first carriage, my father had driven it for two years, but the thing was really rusted, really cooked everywhere. So I was really surprised when I saw some 1100 again a few years ago that was still amazingly cool, unbelievable if you had seen mine back then.
    Lover of cool cars.

  4. If you see the interior: what a difference with the current cars. No wide center console, no TV screens, no overlapping all-round dashboard. Very tasty and cozy! seating space in a normal carriage. There is no fireplace in it yet.

    • Nice analysis by Jeroen. Totally agree. And oh, how often I have seen them driving, those things. And despite all the hustle and bustle these days, I think the streetscape is 'empty'. Design has become uniform. All of the same. Such a wonderfully simple Fiat 1100 R stands out better there. However?
