Purchasing classics there

A compact family car, 1300 cc, automatic transmission, 4-door model from the German production of Ford in Cologne. The big little car, 4 meters small and 4 people tall. A popular car that was widely sold in the Netherlands and Belgium at the time. A car with a luxurious appearance due to the chrome window frame and the beautiful chrome bumpers with the square lamps in the grille. The 2 Ford Escort MK1978.

Spanish residence

The first owner of the Ford Escort MK2 opted for a white paint coat. Not only because the color was popular at the time, but also because it would drive in Spain and white is simply the coolest color in warm regions. Most of the cooling in the car had to come from the small windows! During those 45 years in sunny places, you saw this type of Ford gradually disappear from the streets. Only afterwards do you realize that it was a very nice model, very different from the first series of the Ford Escort, especially now that the current generation is looking for the remaining copies.

Rock-solid offer

After the death of the owner, Willem tracked down the car via the internet; he suddenly had the strong and inexplicable feeling that it would be something special. The Ford Escort MK2 had now returned to the family in Belgium who were about to emigrate to America, and the car had to be cleared within 24 hours. Because speed was necessary, the decision was made with feeling and not with reason; the car could not be seen, transport had to be arranged immediately and the purchase price paid. Ultimately, the purchase turned out to be a day with a golden edge!

A beautiful Ford Escort MK2 richer

In the Netherlands, the beautiful 4-door Ford Escort MK2 received a beauty treatment and a thorough technical maintenance. The Ford found sufficient favor with the RDW inspectors to issue the coveted new license plate, perhaps in retrospect a vintage license plate would have been nicer? Everything remained original with the exception of the rims, with which Willem gave it a personal touch.

Conquered his heart

Willem: “The Ford has completely won my heart, it is a joy to drive in it every time. It's like you're on holiday; you just forget your daily worries. It might be nice to say that my car life has only consisted of the Ford brand, I even met my wife at a Ford event. Yet another proof that Ford always showed the right way!” (Remember the slogan? 'Ford leads the way').

  1. Cool Ford Escort, I must say. Too bad about those bling bling rims, which clearly don't belong there. I understand that the standard steel rims were not a catcher either. But Ford also offered beautiful alloys at that time among the more expensive versions.

  3. Nice cart, although we at GM say;
    F ix O r R epair D aily ;).
We actually had 3 good XR3 i's! Economical and fast, handling tricki!
The current Fords last 1 to 1,5 tons, then it's usually a matter of paying. Models are certainly nicer than many other, often more expensive brands.

  4. Beautiful Ford! 👌

If you would like a vintage car license plate, you can send a request to the RDW.
Converting the yellow plate to the old blue is possible if you first own the vehicle in Holland.

(The RDW inspector could have also introduced himself!🙄)

  5. This was my first car. A 1.1 engine version in light blue color. I have fond memories of this car, although I thought the 1.1 was a bit light for the decent size of the car.
The successor, an MK3 in XR3 version, did not have that problem at all. 🙂

    • I also looked at the time when those blue plates were re-admitted after 1972. My Ford Capri with construction date 28-02-1978 was just 2 months too young for a blue plate (unfortunately)
The first day it was possible to change such a plate for a car after 1972, I ordered one for a car from 1974 (07-YA-09)
This was a great success as the numbers increased very quickly in just a few days.
