Purchasing classics there

Did Marco Borsato sing that dreams are deception? Freddy van der Veen's dream came true. As a Ford Mondeo driver, his heart went out to own an original Ford Sierra XR4, which became reality for him almost 7 years ago.

By: Dirk de Jong

After the first few years on the road, there were 'heart rhythm disorders' at the Ford that forced him to park the beautiful white Sierra. For him it is still an 35-year-old sleeping beauty, but the 'resuscitation' is coming, so that he can beautify the Dutch road next spring.

The car is 100% original, has a 2,8-liter six-cylinder engine. Freddy is part of a group of friends with a wide variety of classics and vintage cars. For him, of course, it is Ford, but it doesn't really matter where one drives. In the classic world there are no ranks and positions, only the hobby counts. This way Freddy keeps his Ford Sierra XR4 alive and kicking.

  1. I once had a Granada 2.8 Ghia from 1978, so the then new model.
With 64000 km and 4 years old purchased from the director of Ford Evag in Vlaardingen.
Once and never again an EU Ford, the pistons flew around the ears (tilt) while it had never been driven wildly. After 2 was overhauled it was done, gone with it.
But Ford USA also did and does stupid things.
Just look at the Jaguar / Ford 4.0 V8 with plastic chain tensioners and guides and Nikasal cylinder liner, 00k used in the Towncar. No, Ford will not convince me although I now drive the Jaguar with a modified distribution set.

  2. My former colleague always drove Sierra XR4i
With the original 150 horses in the stable, the fun was over. With a turbo on it the power went quickly to 225pk.
After more than 200.000 kilometers with that (yes!), A piece of ban broke a piston shirt. The engine was tired. No worries. The bulky power source was overhauled and I personally adjusted the pistons on the lathe to the new settings. 235hp and 395Nm were his performance,… at 4800rpm.
The injection system no longer gave gas.
With an adjustment to this, it was a party. 292pk and thick 450Nm torque. Gearboxes were ruined en masse. Anyway, they were replaced by him and his friend in 45 minutes. The thieves' guild ended the marriage with the V6 indomitable rocket, because that was it. The car was simply stolen. Very painful, but the memory remains.
Personally I have driven a Scorpio 2.9i for a long time. A V6 newly developed by Ford with a cam stick reversed and other inlets and outlets. Walked differently, sounded differently and again a kind of indestructible piece of cast iron with a blissful walking behavior.
Mine had 3Ton on the counter when he said goodbye and was still running like a new one. Tickled above 165pk. From 0-100 in measured 8 seconds. And living room with muscles

  3. I am almost certain that it has a better suspension than the 1,8 on gas that I was the first car to be moved to a new boss. Every passenger in the back became car sick and he could break out of corners without any warning. He was really slower on gas than the next 405GLD. what was beautiful was the blue color.

  4. The Ford Sierra XR4 is an argentinian car with an 2,3 liter 4 cylinder carburetor engine. In the photo you can see a Ford Sierra XR4i with an 2,8 liter 6 cylinder injection engine.
