The national protest campaign of the oldtimer supporters went well. In the run-up to the consideration of the 2014 Tax Plan in the Upper Chamber, various old-timer owners from various corners of the Netherlands drove to The Hague to reinforce their protest against the 40-year compromise. Apart from a few troubled moments, the day went well and the old-timer owners (and not only the category that was taken into account to pay the MRB rate for the old-timer) made a nice statement.
Emergency Ordinance
The old-timer enthusiasts were called on Facebook to travel to The Hague to arrive in the center of the Hofstad around the clock from 12. The place of destination was the Binnenhof. However, Mayor Jozias van Aartsen put a stop to that, because he issued an emergency ordinance. As a result, the parade of vintage cars was not allowed to travel to the center, but was led to the Malieveld. A nice collection of cars with an age of 25 years or older quickly developed at that place - historically known from several protests.
Early petition delivery
In the course of the afternoon it became known that the mayor of The Hague had given the order to bring forward the planned new petition handover from the classic car supporters. This was done from the point of view of precautions to keep order on the Malieveld. Around 15.15 pm, the petition - initiated by Brigitte Schrijvers - in collaboration with Team Vrijstellingoldtimer - was handed over by Wouter van Embden to Ankie Broekers-Knol, the chairman of the Senate. This happened in front of the Binnenhof closed by the police in the presence of the oldtimer owners who traveled to The Hague. After this, the various protesters returned to the oldtimers to quietly leave The Hague. Around 18.00:XNUMX pm it became clear that the members of the Senate had received the petition.
BP2014 treatment is now taking place
The treatment of the 2014 Tax Plan is currently taking place in the Senate. The content will be finally voted on tomorrow night. Then it is finally known what the future will be for the old-timer owner and the industry.

I really hope it does something. My car is still not an old-timer (Volvo 940GL estate from 1992) but I have many friends and acquaintances who do have an old-timer. And I don't even drive 10.000 km a year so I don't break the roads either. Abolish road tax altogether and most road users pay for it in petrol / diesel / LPG.
