Purchasing classics there

It started for Opel with the A Kadett in the 60s, which allowed it to compete successfully with the low-priced VW Beetle. The letter series has long been honored for the Opel Kadett. After the A came the B, the C and even later the D and E series. This beautiful 1977 Opel C Kadett was bought in 1980 by Adrianus van der Meulen, Sytze's father, who shone with pride as a worker who could afford such a beautiful car. He invariably called this his workers Mercedes.

Opel was a very constant player in the market at the time. It was especially a lot of car for little money that appealed to the Opel buyer. Combined with a solid character, this meant that many population groups wanted to drive Opel, including the working class.

Opel family

When father Adrianus van der Meulen died in 2007, the Opel C Kadett remained in the family, and as the photos prove now in 2020, 43 years later still in new condition. This is also thanks to Sytze's brother who, above all, technically maintained him perfectly. The fact that he has been a sleeper all these years has also contributed to the fantastic state of today. The Opel virus was taken over by Sytze van der Meulen (68), who drove no less than 14 Opels in his working life and who now drives a Vectra (1996) as a daily car. Sytze has already decided that the Opel will be transferred to Arjan, one of the grandchildren who bears his father's name. In other words, the Opel C Kadett in an automatic version remains in the family for years to come.

The future

The history of this Opel makes it clear that it is an important part of Sytze's life. A permanent place for the mobile survival of the Opel in his garage and in his heart. He also admires the new generation that will soon give the brown Opel C Kadett a future. Opel is synonymous here with family feeling.

  1. My first car? City SR. Console with tachometer, voltmeter and oil pressure gauge if I have it. In addition, it had nice upholstery, headrests two outside mirrors and you rarely encountered this car.
I bought the 23-RS-49 about five days before I got my driver's license.

  2. It used to be said: if you put an Opel brand on a turd, the turd is even sold. Unbeatable those solid, spacious, family Opels. Then VW suddenly came from the left corner with a right direct. Germany beat the Americans. Opel became increasingly problematic qualitatively.
