Kawasaki Z750
The original

AMK reader Ron Reedelijk sent us the attached photo asking if we knew about this engine.

A) Original or just beautiful? is
B) A very nice piece of self-motivation from a taste lover.

He did not find that information on the Internet.
We have looked into our archives and ... Didn't find this beauty in brochures or price lists.

So we gamble on a very nice project of someone who can be really proud of it. He could be a winner at Goos Bos Koning Zelfbouwdag in Hengelo, Overijssel

  1. The original was a KZ750 CSR chopper from 1982 in weathered condition, which had been outside under a roof for 15 for years. He did not walk, but the block was loose and had only walked 14000 Miles.
Have done a lot of restoration projects but wanted to build a scrambler once because I was always fond of it (the triumph by Steve Mcqeen from the 60s) Previously (as a teenager) had a honda SS50 and a Batavus whippet with cross tires.
The condition was that it had to be a motor for every day, so complete with steering lock, helmet lock, flashing lights, folding saddle etc. And it had to look as original as possible.
That is why I have retained all stickers and type plates and reused as many parts as possible.
The frame has been adjusted and shortened (the chopper seat has been removed), the aluminum passenger struts replaced with home-made steel ones. The buddyseat made flat, shortened, the back rounded, the foam adjusted, the hinges adjusted and refurbished. Adjusted the side caps, made a tank of a B1 pass, extended the original shock absorbers and made the front fork more progressive and slightly shortened.
The mudguards have been shortened, made narrower and the edges have been folded over again. A Lucas rear light and small flashers mounted.
The 16 inch rear wheel rim replaced by a wider 17inch wheel with an 140 / 80 allroad tire and for the 19inch rim re-fitted to an 18inch wheel with an 130 / 80 allroad tire.
A completely new stainless steel homemade exhaust system with a hand-beaten aluminum heat shield.
Furthermore sprayed everything myself, the engine block overhauled and modified. The engine block was tuned slightly so I had to tighten the clutch, the nozzle occupation and carburetor needles adjusted.
Because it is so much still a lot of work is not mentioned.
Everything done with home, garden and kitchen utensils. My only special tools are: a small compressor, a welding machine, a Chinese paint sprayer of 20 euro, a grinder and a torque wrench.
He drives fantastic, a lot of pulling power at the bottom and a nice dark sound!
