This weekend the Grimaldi Forum in Monte Carlo will once again be dominated by the RM Sotheby's auction. Numerous special classics and related items will be auctioned on 12 May. The auction is traditionally held over the weekend, during which the Historic Grand Prix of Monaco is also held. The small state, for example, is dominated by beautiful historical material for a weekend. RM Sotheby's has added a number of special lots to the collection for the auction. We highlight a few examples.
Alfa Romeo Giulia SS, 1965
Designed by Bertone, with elements from Berlina Aerodinamica Tecnica. Built in an edition of 1400 pieces. The Giulia SS is one of the most appealing creations based on the legendary middle class history of the Milanese manufacturer. It also produced the very similar predecessor, the Giulietta SS. The delicate mix of aerodynamics and dynamics results in a beautiful spectacle. The specimen that is offered in Monaco is beautifully preserved and detailed. The silver-colored exterior harmonizes with the beautiful Rosso in the interior, which is also equipped with beautiful meter work and other subtle details. It is expected that the Sprint Speciale by Bertone will change owner for an amount between € 100.000 and € 120.000.
Porsche 911 2.2S Prototype
No RM Sotheby's auction without special Porsches. That adage also applies in Monaco, where, among other things, various 911 types are offered. The 2.2S Prototype, which was built in 1969, is very special. This test Porsche (with matching numbers) was destined to prepare the 911 series for the next chapter in the legend. A very early 2200 cc boxer engine was mounted in this Porsche, as well as a five-speed gearbox. This prototype is complete, including registration documents and a certificate of authenticity. The factory Porsche is painted in Blut Orange and has an exquisitely finished interior with the use of leather and corduroy. The Porsche was completely restored in the Netherlands. It is offered in full glory. The target price? That is between € 250.000 and € 350.000.
Fiat 500 Nuova, 1959
A very interesting car for Fiat 500 enthusiasts is the 500 N from 1959 offered in Monaco. The fully restored copy in 2015 recently received an additional upgrade. The condition of the Fiat is perfect, and what makes this 500 especially special is that it is still equipped with the original 479 cc engine and the original transmission. The 500 is estimated in Monaco on a revenue that is between € 20.000 and € 30.000. Lot number 131 is to get through a ring.
Chevrolet Corvette, 1960
A particularly well-preserved specimen of the first generation of the Chevrolet Corvette with 283 cu engine and manual 4 gearbox. RM Sotheby's proudly offers this "European" Corvette. Over the years, the Corvette sprayed in Horizon Blue has been fitted with an electronic ignition. It is important that this Corvette was awarded the Top Flight Award, and that means that the Chevrolet is extremely original. Lot number 114 is offered in Monaco with the expectation that this unique car (including a hardtop) will yield between € 90.000 and € 120.000.
