During the ongoing Techno Classica in Essen, Germany, ŠKODA looks back on impressive milestones from the brand's 122 history. The tradition-rich Czech brand focuses on three main themes at its stand in Hall 7. This is how visitors come face to face with aerodynamic prototypes. Pillar two concerns the ŠKODA 130 RS which achieved a double victory in the prestigious Rally Monte Carlo. And the ŠKODA Favorit, which once paved the way for one of the most successful partnerships in the automotive industry, is in the spotlight in Germany.

935 Dynamic

"One of the highlights at our booth in Hall 7 is the ŠKODA 935 Dynamic," said Andrea Frydlová, head of the ŠKODA Museum located at the head office in Mladá Boleslav. “This shows that we have a lot of know-how in the field of aerodynamics. This is the only copy of this model that has been preserved and this car has been carefully restored by our restoration department. Even the color is the same as when it was newly built. "

Love of technology

The car manufacturer has built extraordinary models on numerous occasions that have made a major contribution to technical development. An example of this is the ŠKODA 935 Dynamic, the first aerodynamic prototype of the brand that was introduced to the world in 1935 during the Prague car fair and caused a stir with its impressive low air resistance. During the Techno Classica, ŠKODA introduces visitors to this unique model that is back in top shape after a glorious past.

Far ahead of their time

Also on display during the classic fair: the ŠKODA POPULAR Monte Carlo in coupé and convertible version. Both models were far ahead of their time with their elegant and aerodynamic lines. The same can be said of the rare ŠKODA RAPID 'Dalnice', of which only 1938 copies were produced between 1941 and 110. His streamlined design came about in the wind tunnel - which was rare in this early period of car history.

ŠKODA 130 RS

The ŠKODA 130 RS shows that the love for motor sport was also deep in the brand in the 1970s. Visitors to the Techno Classica 2017 can watch a special version of the legendary rear-wheel driver. The ŠKODA 130 RS A5 (type 738) was used in 1978 for numerous aerodynamic tests at an airport in the town of Hoškovice. With the large rear spoiler and the body getting wider towards the rear, the engineers were able to achieve greater downward pressure and thus more stable driving at higher speeds. This was not a superfluous luxury, since the streamlined prototype clocked a top speed of 250 km / h. The 140 kW / 190 hp four-cylinder engine was supplied with fresh air via large air inlets.

The 'Porsche from the East'

Talk about the 130 RS; the 'Porsche from the east' won the 1.300 cc class of the Monte Carlo Rally in 1977. The predecessor of the contemporary ŠKODA FABIA R5 achieved one of the most impressive performances in the 117 year that ŠKODA is now engaged in motorsport. During the classic exhibition in Essen, the ŠKODA 130 RS, the ŠKODA FABIA R5 in 1977 color scheme and other representatives of ŠKODA's racing history can be admired. Finally, the Czechs in Essen also pay attention to the Favorit. The model signed by Bertone is the car that paved the way for the successful cooperation between ŠKODA and Volkswagen.
