'In the past', when the seepage tube was not yet full of advertisements about the purchase of a 'fuel-efficient' and environmentally conscious car, the internet still had to be invented, a car was a whole possession and the housewife exchanged her bicycle or Solex for an 'own' car that had to drive economically because the gasoline of then no 60 rock-hard old Dutch cents per liter, was quite an attack on household money, the dealer loaded a Fiat 500 on his (of course also Fiat) pickup and parked it on the local village square.
At least, Autobedrijf Staal did that on Ginnekenweg (it must have been somewhere in Brabant!). The Fiat 500 then cost NLG 3.799. "From", yes. That would have saved a lot, because the financing of a four-wheeler, they did that themselves. We found the picture at a flea market. Black / white with a nice serrated edge. Taking a photo at the time was also a whole 'deed'. The film - or roll of film as it was then called - had to be taken to the local drugstore or photographer and after almost a week the result became visible. Or not, if something had gone wrong, And ..., little boys knew how to 'picture' themselves in detail when the finger pressed the release button ... Would Autobedrijf Staal still exist and where was that company located? Are there more such photos in circulation? We are naturally very curious about the outcome that you can help us with?
Photo: Look how it used to be, recharge new car on a pickup, sign with price and telephone number and then just wait for someone to turn over his piggy bank ...
