This Volvo 340 Baur Cabrio is unique in the sense of exceptional and special, because there are only 2 copies of this version! This special youngtimer from 1984 with less than 20.000 km on the odometer is now offered at Harrie Arendsen Classics.
It is a top class youngtimer with a very special design inspired by Baur's bodywork. Enthusiasts will recognize the well-known BMW 3 series from Baur with this roof construction. BMW had a long collaboration with Baur, who also provided other brands with a special construction, such as the Opel Kadett Aero. The progressive technology ensured a construction in which the convertible was as safe as a closed car.
Hidden past
Despite searches for this well-maintained rarity, no clear picture emerged of the development of this exceptional youngtimer. The assumption is that this version was developed by Volvo in Helmond and built in collaboration with Baur. Volvo has always had a penchant for innovation and perhaps this creation was meant to be marketed.
It is now literally a unique Volvo and an opportunity for the lucky ones to acquire it. It really is a 'once in a lifetime' opportunity.
Open-air experience
Thanks to the vinyl roof, Volvo quickly transforms this 340 into a convertible. It is pure open-air sensation, and wonderful to cruise with. Since no documentation has been found so far, we can only admire the details in the photos. The Baur style is clearly visible, the bodywork is beautiful, which does not detract from the original character of the Volvo 340. You can enjoy the pure lines. The 2-door Volvo 340 Baur Cabrio in its white paint coat has a 4-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1397 cc. With a mileage of less than 20.000, the youngtimer is in practically new condition.

The lines of this 340 are not pleasant on the retina. I understand that it was limited to 2 copies. Wouldn't it have been better to use a 360 as a basis? Just because of the extra weight. A different flashy color and larger wheels would also have done it well.
My first lease car, the regular 1, what a terrible thing that was... If the weather forecast predicted some wind, you were already mopping off the road and power was only something you had read about. The rough handling improved enormously when I added magnesium rims with wider tires that I still had from my BMW 340-1600, the same stitch. No, I thought this was hopeless, you enjoyed the last DAF more 🙂

Good grief, how on earth was it possible to make this even uglier than it was when it came out. I believe our Father had something in that spirit. it was a Volvo, hideous, and to make it really special the color was a kind of hearing aid beige. Yikes.
