ABS. The anti-blocking system. Nowadays almost standard on ladies' bicycles and wheelbarrows. But once revolutionary.

Gabriel Voisin came up with the invention of the anti-lock braking system in the year 1929. It was primarily intended for aircraft. When they landed, they had to brake as hard as possible without slipping tires. ABS was first used on the cars around 1960. This was another mechanical system. ABS as we know it today was developed in 1978 by Robert Bosch. The first electronic ABS system to be used in passenger cars was named ABS 2 and was developed by Mercedes-Benz and Bosch. The Mercedes S Class was the first.

When vehicles with ABS entered the market en masse, the number of deaths fell extremely. Nowadays, ABS will be mandatory for newly sold cars, also for motorcycles
