In its heyday - including in the Netherlands - the (Classic) Mini Pickup was 'employed' by many companies. In the seventies and eighties they drove like 'garbage truck' in Leeuwarden, in the same period as an ice-cream truck in Steenwijk, Giethoorn and surroundings. And of course as 'help' at a few dealers.
In Great Britain that was tackled more grandly. For example, there was a company SC Cummins in Crewe - the birthplace of Rolls-Royce at the time - that turned it into a real Ice Cream Van. Those trolleys soon became nicknamed 'Batman' because of the 'big eyes' above the cabin and the 'fins'. Although hundreds have been built, not many of them are left today. And those that still exist depend on the state of maintenance, expensive to very expensive. The copy shown here dates from 1967 and has been completely restored. In addition, the trolley was sampled in the colors of ice cream supplier Wall's. Is ready for operation. Perhaps the only Classic Mini that can be used to earn money?
The Walls version on the photo is a replica made in 2014, which was sold to a collector of film and other crazy cars and film props. He rented a nuclear bunker to house his collection, but also started to grow marijuana in it, until he was caught and arrested earlier this year. The entire collection of cars was auctioned in Ireland in October.
In the Netherlands, the mini-deed was also used by many entrepreneurs to sell ice cream on the street, I have some information about it but more is always welcome. Who knows what?
