A real Citrophil gets warm from this! A combination on this one Citroën 2 CV AZU Van from 1961 in various colours, surface rust and the special patina front makes it complete. You imagine yourself in a bygone era when it was still beautiful on the road. Homesickness and sentiment sometimes strike fiercely.

By: Dirk de Jong

Citroën has been a regular part of his life for a long time. A long lasting relationship! His car career started with the well-known Ugly Duckling, followed by a Traction Avant and again some Citroën 2 resumes and even a Citroën ami. But the desire for the pure duck kept coming back, you sometimes wonder: Could it be innate? Then it can also be explained why he tracked down this robbery in the south of France, whose bottom was crispier than an Italian pizza. In fact, twenty centimeters from the sheet metal on the sides had disappeared because of that sneaky rust devil. It will therefore come as no surprise to you that the restoration took more than two years, especially to stop the proliferating rust and to replace the necessary sheet metal. His knowledge and experiences with restorations of Citroën are in such a way that with a blindfold he can recognize all parts and even the place where it should be in the French car. He is therefore blessed with an innate dexterity, which is popularly called: Two right hands.

The older the more beautiful

Ad: “I like cars with their own character, the design of these Citroën 2 CV AZU Van appeals to me, it's atmosphere and charm for me. As a person over 70, it is justified that I have a penchant for nostalgia, youth sentiment in its purest form. And don't forget that driving this 2 CV is a social event, whether it's at my home or on the road, I'm always entitled. The hobby car is only for summer outings and events, even international. I am convinced that my Citroën 2 CV AZU will continue to distinguish itself through the design, the potential of the Citroëns from days gone by remains great.”

Judgment postponed

Another example of a 2 CV that was ready for the demolition hammer, but which was secured by Ad's rescue for a new life on the Dutch road. It's just a nice appearance in traffic. Ad can enjoy admiring glances from fellow road users. For him, the Citroën 2 CV AZU Van the same as a beautiful woman… he can't take his eyes off it. It is not possible to better capture his enthusiasm in words.

  1. I also started with a duck. In the early 18s I turned 6 and got my driver's license. You bought an old duck for a few hundred guilders. My brother scored an Ami 6 Berline. I had to have that too. the Ami 8 became an Ami 2 Saloon. all 1948nd hand. Then I wanted a Traction Avant as a craft car. It became a Sportje with a wheel on the back, built in XNUMX, somewhere deep in France. After a year of tinkering a Ned. license Plate. In the late XNUMXs, I traded that Traction for a new Dyane (apple green) at a Citroen trader. In the eighties I drove several GS's and also breaks. As a hobby car I drove a DS19, built in 1968 with sliding roof and decorative handle on the hood. In the nineties I made a trip to Peugeot. I've had several of these as well (all 2nd hand). The first a 404, then a 304, then a 504. The turn of the century passed and it became a new Toyota. But then I ran into a Citroen XM on, with V6 engine. I couldn't resist, I had a hobby car again. With the Citroen XM I often drove up and down to Belgium, just for fun. Sold again after a few years (to an acquaintance who kept nagging about it) That was the last one Citroen in my possession. Hobby cars are a thing of the past. It's still a Toyota now. But the memory of Citroen remains, that was more like a car, more like driving a car. It's like a memory of lost love from a gorgeous woman, you forget her nagging and only think about pleasure.

  2. My red special, HK-72-RL what a pleasure and minimal cost.
My last base C1 (we called it Citroën one, sounds like…) was such a pleasure too.

  3. Remains a unique mode of transport👍😄I have had many different types in the 80s.Dan had Citroën dealers, they are still on their property.300 guilders and he was yours😍Those were times.Later, a group of people, who had a little more money in the bank, thought that ducks are nice, which caused prices to rise abnormally. a tracking avant a dream. They were very expensive. I could never imagine that a time would come when many nice cars, including a traccion and Peugeot 203,403 and even 504, would be more affordable than ducks😳As much as I like them, there is a limit. But, I like them and maybe I'll come across something someday 🦆 or Ami, with work for a realistic price 😄 Who knows, you can dream Oh yes, built before 1970 of course 👍😄

  4. In the early 70s in Baarn. Delivering flower orders in a delivery duck (red). If you just got your driver's license a party, a little tearing through the bends. A friend went with me and that was not the intention. Fired immediately. Later had several ducks and enjoyed many holidays, including North Africa, with the duck. Always walked. Due to the low octane content, the duck in Algeria often remained after diesel for a long time. In his 1, handbrake on and then it stopped. Now another red duck in the garage. Again beautiful holidays in France experienced. Remains great. Regards, Simon

  5. Wonderful such a car, driven daily in the years 65-70. Delivering a package in and around the Veluwe was a joy, especially the winding roads were a real pleasure. Also on holiday with the duck was delicious. partition which put sleeping bags in it, curtains for the windows and carts. At the border of Luxembourg stopped by customs for a large-scale check, long hair sleeping bags, curtains in the car and that in a duck, there must be something smelly. So no!
A beautiful country to ride in a duck, where you put it was your overnight place.
The chairs out and you could enjoy outside, pan on your camping gas burner, like god in …….Luxembourg.
But then we were not in a hurry and max 100 was no problem at all!
