Purchasing classics there

It is claimed that the Netherlands is the most Citrophile country in the world, with all types having their own club. The Ami association is one of those, whose members will be surprised to read that there is still a remarkable beauty in the form of a unique Citroën Ami Pickup. Many still have a soft spot for French classics that delight the hearts of enthusiasts. Citroën exerts an irresistible attraction on them!

Auke is a passionate enthusiast Citroën classics, the history of various types continue to live under his care and in this way he gives shape to his love for cars. Who took the photo of the Citroën Looking at Ami Pickup, you see that the bodywork has a striking line, which is out of place compared to the normal version. But there is more besides this special model, Auke has an enormous knowledge of it Citroën built up and can provide advice on repairs and restorations. From his farm under the name Citrac he can still supply almost everything for various customers Citroëns.

Citroën Ami Pickup: Incroyable!

Auke: “The Ami stole the hearts of many, there is a lot of interest in this classic with its air-cooled simmer. The eager ghost of rust has destroyed much, but not all is lost. In France they kept driving them until they broke down, and even then they were kept in the shed.”

Very coveted Citroën To me

The Ami 6 was launched in 1961 and was supplied with a 22 hp engine, succeeded in 1969 by the Ami 8. The Ami was a model between the 2 CV and the DS, for budgetary reasons they had to be close to the technology of the 2 CV to stay.

Auke's story

Auke: “In the 70s I drove past the company Citroëndealer Kruisheer in Heerenveen and saw a special Ami, designed as a Pick Up, with a huge tractor tire on the back with advertising for the company. On a subsequent trip the car appeared to have disappeared, and this time my curiosity won and I paid a visit to Mr. Kruisheer to obtain information. The Citroën Ami Pickup had now been put behind the company with an unknown future. That future became clear again when I made the purchase, there was only one condition, it had to remain in my collection, and that is why the Citroën Ami Pickup has been dry and under a blanket in the farm for more than 50 years. A man a man, a word a word, i.e. an honest man keeps his word.”

Formidable heritage

Auke has collected so much over the years that his farm has almost become a refuge, in addition to his CX version as an animal ambulance and his DS ambulance, he is safely surrounded by thousands of parts for all French classic Citroëns. Supplying parts and giving advice is the only way to protect the heritage over many generations. A classic lives when it is restored or restored, then there is a future.

  1. It certainly looks like its own unique creation. I suspect that otherwise the rear screens would be the long ones (from the Ami6 service). But yes, in those golden creative years, wonderful official creations were also made by the factory, by bodybuilders, by garages. With a grinder and welding machine, everyone could put something together.

  2. From the looks of the roof it is a sawn Ami 6 sedan.
Once upon a time in the 90s I made an Acami Super based on an Ami Super with a GS 1015cc engine.
The front was from an Ami 8 sedan. Behind the front door I placed the delivery section of an Acadiane. That didn't fit at all.
Still, I managed to complete it as a successful project.
After being stored for almost 20 years, the car has been back in the spotlight since 2018.
In the future I will make it drivable again.
A photo of my creation can be seen in the book 'Ami de mon père'.
Years later, a Frenchman imitated my idea in his own way.
I also have original Ami's, so it's allowed, right?

  3. Sorry, this time a bit of a “thin” story (not something I'm used to from you). Was that Pick-up made in-house or by a well-known body builder in that period or even by Citroen yourself? Would like some more information/depth.
