The idea of injecting fuel directly into the cylinder (s) was brought to us by the German company Robert Bosch, which today is still one of the biggest players on the world market. (Mechanical) Fuel injection was used for the first time in 1952 in the automotive industry.
Thanks to Hans Scharenberg, technical employee at Daimler-Benz who later became a development manager at Gutbrod. The passenger car with mechanical gasoline injection produced in the first mass produced in 1951 was called Gutbrod Superior. When Scharenberg returned to Daimer-Benz shortly afterwards, he applied the system in 1954 to the Mercedes Benz 300SL Gullwing for the first time. The electronic fuel injection must be attributed to the American company Bendix. The so-called Electrojector system was first used in the automotive industry by AMC, the American Motor Corporation on the Rambler Rebel. That was in 1957 ... Although Chrysler also claims with the 300D to be the first to apply this electronics to cars produced by it. However, the Chrysler 300D only appeared in 1958, as did the DeSoto Adventurer, Plymouth Fury and Dodge D500, which were also supplied with this system that same year, mounted on the thirsty V8 powerhouse.
