Today, all cars are good cars, but some meet higher criteria and that is the case for Lada. They are more robust because they have to be able to handle all climates from the warmest to the coldest. The Lada's are sturdier because they must be suitable for all terrains and all types of roads. Jan Koopmans likes the latter the most about his Lada 1300.

In addition to his classic hobby, he is also a cross fanatic. His Lada 1300, his VAZ 21011, is originally from Russia. He was taken to our country by a student. The original type plates are still there and also the address of the dealer. An extra surprise was the text on the sticker on the rear window that indicated that this Lada belonged in the 'combat class'. A funny statement that suits Jan again because of his enthusiasm for autocross.
Discreet luxury
Jan had been a big fan of 'Ponton' models for years. His first love was the famous Mercedes Ponton (W 120), so the line of the Lada appeals to him. And also as a classic, it is considerably less expensive than any other car with similar qualities.
He likes to show the interior with the comfortable seats, the four spacious doors, and the sober dashboard. Completely from the time of the 80s. The Lada 1300 is already a special appearance in traffic. When he drives past he is stared at. Perhaps also a form of recognition, because already in 1966 this model appeared on the market as FIAT 124 and even became car of the year in 1967. In terms of appearance, it completely matches, but technically the car was adapted to the specific conditions of use. in Russia. It is still a popular model for many in the Eastern Bloc. And that certainly applies to Jan Koopmans, because this Lada 1300 was a wish that came true for him. What he sees are pluses and fun in the classic hobby. And the latter naturally appeals to us all.
