Morris Ten (1948). Eye-catcher for 'The Veteran'

Purchasing classics there

De Veteraan has a small-scale but special museum in the Frisian Metslawier. It is important for the owner that there is a lot of variation in his collection, whether it concerns classic motorcycles, mopeds or cars. The oldtimer in the yard of De Veteraan is a real eye-catcher. It attracts the attention of the tourist cycling past who likes to pay a spontaneous visit.

By: Dirk de Jong

At the moment it is a 1948 Morris Ten, a car that time has not passed unnoticed. In peace and quiet and overcome by rust, the 72-year-old continues to exert attraction.

Special find

Not that the history of this Englishman is known, but two special advertisements from 1949 from the importer JJ were found in the car. Miller from Amersfoort. A special find.

The text (in beautiful language) of this promotion is as follows :.

As it were the 100.000 for the man who is assigned a Morris. Morris the English class car synonymous with reliability and economy. The 'Eight' and 'Ten' belong to the class of small automobiles. But in allure, finish and performance - certainly for profession and company and in these times all the more - they are far to be preferred over many heavier types.

Worthy, also price-worthy

The Morris finish makes this renowned British car product a graceful car. Connoisseurs speak of super-class in their experience about the reliability, the economy and the almost indestructible material. Observe the Morris cars on the road until you come to a purchase later.

Jelle van Keimpema (The Veteran)

Jelle van Keimpema has spent more than 40 years in his livelihood as a car painter but only starts to live in his spare time at his old-timer museum. What really makes him happy is the contact with his friends, visitors. He could fill a Saturday supplement of the newspaper with his stories. (Google on the Veteran Metslawier). He feels comfortable in his hobby life. In the gasoline and oil talks. Or conversations about business in general or his own hobby museum in particular. The promotional text of the ad advised to observe the car by the road. Not easy today, you don't see them riding very often at this age. But luckily there is one in front of his museum. And Jelle is young (in his fifties) and still full of fire and wants to tell everything about his freely accessible museum.

  1. I'll drop dead if it's not true, for some readers the free articles coming out every day seem too “skinny” in this case?
    Shame on DH B.

Greetings from YVR where the California forest fire smoke keeps people in.

  2. The reference to the importer Molenaar brings back beautiful memories. In 1962 I worked as a HTS trainee in the assembly factory in Amersfoort and, among other things, assembled Minor bodies in a somewhat accurate manner, with very heavy spot welding equipment. Subsequently in Oxford and Longbridge (Birmingham) a study was made of methods and the development of the Balanza (1800) wool. Great experience, but also the obvious signs that the UK auto industry could not survive for much longer; qualitatively far behind what I had seen at DAF before.

  4. Wonderful, the experience in the ad and that of Jelle. That paints a good picture of that time and of the place that cars had then. I like articles like this.
