De perhaps the most beloved car in Fiat's history, celebrating its 60th birthday in a special way. The Fiat 500 is included in the permanent collection of the MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art, in New York City. The model that will be on display in the prestigious museum is a Fiat 500 F.

"The Fiat 500 changed the way cars were designed and manufactured in Italy and is an icon in automotive history," said Martino Stierli. He is the "Philip Johnson Chief Curator of Architecture and DesignFrom the New York MoMA. "By adding this special car to our collection, we broaden the horizon of the MoMA in the field of automotive design".

Most successful generation in MoMa

The model that the MoMA includes in the collection is a Fiat 500 F. This one model generation was built between 1965 and 1972. It is the most popular 500 in the model's long career. Fiat's "big small" car was a worldwide success. Millions have been manufactured between 1957 and 1975. The 500 in ordinary berlina trim was the most in demand with 3,2 million copies.

Short history

In 1957, sixty years ago, Fiat kicked off with the Nuova 500. Various generations and equipment levels followed, such as the stronger 500 'Sport', 'D' and 'F'. Then came the more comfort-oriented "L". Ultimately, the 'R' was the last in the series. The illustrious 500 was built from 1957 to 1975. The backpack was an important car in the time of mass mobilization, and became extremely popular after a hesitant start. The 500 was built during his career in a variety of variants and by numerous manufacturers. In addition, the small Italian formed an excellent basis for several body houses, which designed their own variation on the theme.
