Purchasing classics there

Born into a family of Citroën enthusiasts, Bert Deunk's first car was a new 2CV6 in 1988. Two years later he exchanged it for a BX, but the love for the Duck always remained.

An unexpected reunion

Thanks to an initiative by his friend René, the 2CV was reunited with Bert after 27 years, albeit in parts. This marked the beginning of a beautiful four-year restoration project.

The star of the show

In the spring of 2023, the 2CV came into the spotlight for the first time at a classic car show in Aalten, where the car immediately won prizes. The editorial staff of AMK was tipped off for a possible report, which Bert considered a crowning achievement for his restoration project.

The emotional motivation

Bert had little experience with car restoration and started the project because of the strong emotional value he attached to his first car. The project was driven by sentiment and a deep connection with the past.

A long search and reunion

Contact with the owner of the dismantled 2CV was made via the RDW, which had sent a contact request on behalf of René. After six months, Bert received good news: the owner wanted to restore the car. It turned out that the car had been in good condition with its second owner all those years.

The restoration in full swing

The restoration started with sorting and cleaning all the parts. The chassis was redone, the sheet metal underwent 30 hours of welding, and many other repairs and improvements were made. The restoration went smoothly thanks to the help of friends and experts.

Back to the original state

The car retained as many of its original parts and accessories as possible, and perfection was strived for in every detail. The restoration was not only a technical process, but also an emotional journey for Bert.

The moment of reunion and recognition

The car was finally officially approved by the RDW in 2021 and regained its original license plate. A symbolic moment of reunion with the past and recognition of the hard work.

A valuable classic

With an appraised value of 30.000 euros, this 2CV is now one of the highest valued in the Netherlands. Despite its value, the car is actively used, with approximately 3000 km on the odometer annually, mainly in the summer months.

This restoration story of the Citroën 2CV Club from 1987 illustrates not only the love for classic cars, but also the power of friendship and dedication in restoring a piece of automotive history. It is a tribute to a timeless car that is still cherished by its owner and admired by car enthusiasts around the world. The full restoration report can be found in the February issue of Auto Motor Klassiek. It is still in the store now.

  1. Wonderful and also nice to know that you can send a contact request via RDW.
It just says: the owner wanted to restore the car.
Does it still belong to the second owner or to Bert again (the first owner)?

  2. Agree Peter,
I have restored a 3CV myself. In other words, an Ami 6 sedan. There was once an article in AMK.
I don't think I will get even a third of the above value.
In terms of special features, this type of Ami is actually more special than a 2 CV.
However, the cult value is much higher with a Duck.
Assume that Bert cherishes his first favorite and is not after the hard currency.
    I think it's a nice story!
The Ami 6 is my second car and I have owned it for 43 years.
I also still own my first car, an Ami 8 estate.

    • Appraised value = insurance value = NOT sales value..

And I think this amount for a beautifully restored 2CV is realistic...
The time when you could buy them for three licorice and two dead fish heads is long ago.
Kudos Bert; she turned out beautiful!
      Enjoy it
