Purchasing classics there

Robin Hofstede likes all brands of motorcycles, but Suzuki's often more fun. And so he traded his unique Suzuki GSX 1100-EFE with 1216 cc displacement and ventilated by a drawthrough Mikuni HSR 45 carburettor-drawing compressor for his Harley. But a unique opportunity to get the engine he already dreamed about when he read about it in the early days of the Internet? You should not miss such an opportunity!

The standard Suzuki GSX 1100 EFE

That was a motorcycle with at least a surprising steering character. Because of the original 16 inch wheels and the bicycle geometry, the not very stable Suzuki was even banned by the West Australian legislators. Funnily enough, the stability problems only occurred if the rider was wearing loose fitting, flapping clothing. That flutter caused minimal steering movements which caused the Suzuki to wiggle and wobble. With the rider tight in the suit, the fat Suus went as if on rails.

In the meantime, all kinds of speed freaks had discovered that the air / oil cooled Suzuki four-cylinder (SACS Suzuki Advanced Cooling System) had an almost endless potential to be tuned. The engine blocks were used in all sorts of ways to be the strongest and fastest somewhere. And that is how Gert-Jan Geurts must have been inspired. And with the almost endless wheelbase there is not much nervousness in the steering behavior

Robins Suzuki

Robin's acquisition is a very special one. The machine was built in the early days of the Internet by Gert-Jan Geurts. Among the two owners after Gert Jan, the Suzuki evolved at the same high-quality level, and Robin plans to further perfect the machine in the same way. He has experience in that process. His blown Suzuki in a nickel-plated Martin frame has an "under construction!" on the tub. 'work in progress'. You think, calculate, make and try out the result. Then things break because even the most Japanese-inclined Harikiri never thought they would go so far beyond the limits of the calculated design.

You make the things that break down. And then the next weakest link appears in the process. And so on and on. In addition, the technique and adjustment of an engine with a compressor that drags the mixture from the modified carburetor is very sensitive. Certainly the mixture provision through the speed is critical. This means that an air / fuel ratio meter is directly in view of the pilot. Oh yes: the fully programmable ignition is also a must!

The maximum attainable

From a technical point of view there is just 350 pk + in the block. And that the turbo pressure for that must be increased from 15 psi to 30 psi? Oh well, that is just some adjustment work on the wastgate, the overflow port for the turbo pressure. That should also be fine. It will not be the fault of the double crankcase vent. And whether this powerhouse ever gets another owner? Robin smiles. "Maybe if he is ever ready". Never so.

On the way to the 350 pk
