bmw 1 cylinderThe sleeping BMW R25 / 2 on King's Day. That is a motorcycle that was 'medium duty' in the first half of the XNUMXs.

And that 'spotting' happened during the free market in Velp. That is quite an event where the providers are not only seasoned traders, but also largely private individuals.

We see the Velp flea market as a day out. For years. And since years ago we ended up at the frayed edges of the market at Autobedrijf Wijlhuizen, we were amazed by the BMW R25 / 2 single-cylinder that was a kind of forgotten all in the showroom. In addition to a much more recent Suzuki 250 without cylinder and head ...

And on King's Day the garage was always closed. This is how the secret of the BMW R25 / 2 remained.

bmw 1 cylinderDuring a recent visit to Velp, we therefore visited Autobedrijf Wijlhuizen once during working hours.

The story became clear: the ex police engine was bought from a friend thirty + years ago. after that it had been driven regularly. But not for a while now…

That while must have been quite long.
The BMW R25 / 2 looks like the ideal restoration padct.

We didn't even dare ask if it is for sale.

Because 'Just looking at the BMW R25 / 2' is part of a visit to the Velp King's Day for us

*Compared to the R24, the R25 was only slightly modified. However, the machine finally had plunger rear suspension, a system that the heavier models had already received in 1938. The front fender had a curl that served as a "mud flap". The machine also received standard ball couplings for attaching a sidecar. Steib's LS 200 sidecar was considered most suitable there. Of course, a different gear ratio was also available. After that, BMW would continue to provide separate transmissions for sidecar use with almost all models until the arrival of the / 5 series. In 1951, the model was already succeeded by the BMW R25 / 2. which had only minor improvements: better saddle, brake light, freewheel light and the tank with rubber attached. And that model was relieved in 1953 by the BMW R25 / 3. 23.400 were produced at that time.
