Something with ABS?

Purchasing classics there

I drove quietly within the built-up area. On a priority road. From my left came a modern motorcycle in a fast Tupperware outfit. We approached the intersection. He braked. And went on his plate. I thought that all modern-style motorcycles had ABS. That is the only electronic cousin I would like to have. But apparently this specimen did not have such a nice feature.

Fast, but under control. Yet?

Modern, sporty motorcycles are now easily 150 horsepower strong and depend on their axis of electronic measurement and control systems to control all that power. When someone proudly told about it, he received the sincere question from a Kawa Z900 pilot: "Why don't you just learn to ride a motorcycle?"

Affijn: The engine that came from the left crashed to the ground

Shove something through. Came to a halt just before the intersection. I stopped and got off. With a classic sidecar combination you can do that without the thing falling over. The fallen knight struggled with difficulty and hopped to his fallen steed. He stopped and raised his hands to heaven. I asked him what had actually happened. “I saw you coming. And braked. And then I fell. You have to look! ”He pointed to his engine, which in the meantime marked its place on the asphalt with gasoline. “But why didn't you brake?” The man in a highly trendy outfit I thought asked me. In my limited vision, he was really 'dressed 2 impress'. But that approach turned out not to really work in the current situation.

I felt a bit under profiled

Because before I got out of the train I had decided not to fall that day, I was wearing jeans, a T-shirt and clogs. Clogs were recognized as safety footwear in 1997. Various clog makers could later also obtain the CE mark for their clogs. And if your classic heel / toe switch is, you can switch very subtly with it. What could clogs do in collaboration with a quick shifter? My classic loves very quiet switching sequences.

My fellow motorcyclist tried unsuccessfully to get his bike back on the rubbers. Putting a fallen engine back on the wheels is a trick. He didn't control that trick. Or maybe it was the stress after the fall. I explained to him: “I was on a priority road and came from the right. Something with traffic rules and such. "" But I only have that engine for two days! "Well, the first scratch always hurts.

I got his bike up

The owner repeated once again that he only had the engine for two days. I asked him if he was insured for all risks. "Of course not! Don't you know what that costs! ”I looked at the sliding damage. Scratches on the cockpit, the mirror and a broken flashing light. The brake pedal was bent. I know that such an impressive tub sticker set can cost just 800 euros. The victim was already calling: “But then a motorcyclist arrived and I suddenly had to brake. And then I fell. Can you come here? ”I asked him if his hurt had an ABS. He didn't know that.

The engine seemed to have a very drivable damage

It wasn't my problem. Just as little as I felt called to fill in a claim form. But that even high-quality plastic is very fragile? I had just gotten that nice again.

And my ABS?

There has never been a KMZ 750 cc side valve whose wheel blocked during braking. A little emergency stop on the faded blue tricycle can easily take about five minutes. But again: you cannot fall over with it.

  1. The brakes or lack of them were the main reason for me to trade in my 47er UL 1200 for something more modern. Every day through the traffic jam to work and being sure that very hard pressing your heels on the asphalt slows down just as quickly as the original Harley brakes, got on my nerves a bit. But I still find that the most beautiful Harley, even if it does not brake for a meter.
