Purchasing classics there

Turkey has been quite up-to-date lately. That actually makes you curious about Turkish classics. We are not talking about Erdogan and other senior drivers, but about classic cars and motorbikes. Does Turkey have anything to offer us in that regard?

Turkish classics

Mwah ... The local happening on wheels actually turns out to be license building and in the outskirts still about donkey carts. The Tofaş (Turk Otomobil Fabrikasi AS) models are Turkish versions of various Fiats. Its sale stopped in 2002. Karsan did license building the Peugeot J9. The Anadol was the first mass-produced passenger car in Turkey. The production ran between 1966-1991. Turkish Renaults have also been made. What we could find out about it was that the quality of that license construction was rather poor. However, the sales were fairly successful nationwide due to a lack of better.

Kanuni took over the two-stroke production from MZ in the motorcycle sector. For the rest, there is little shock to report. There are some home work bikes made based on the eighties Hondaatjes. It is of course a factor that the wealth and poverty were always fairly clearly divided in the remains of the Ottoman Empire. The rich bought American and European. The poor roamed marginally in Anatolia and that kind of hinterland. And there was a skinny donkey on a whole piece of transport.

Even the classics imported

But Turkey still has serious money nowadays. And the classic fans still do what their ancestors did there: they buy in Europe and in the States. When looking for classics in Turkey, we noticed that the trade prices used there are the wettest dream of every classic seller. Unfortunately, there is a snag. The prices of classics in Turkey are so high because the government puts a lot of taxes on them.

In the meantime, we have never seen an Anadol here and the attempts of a company from Halle to import Kanunis have also failed.

Maybe we should go to Turkey for some fieldwork. Due to the political course of Erdogan, at least the entire tourism is on its back and perhaps we will soon receive money for a holiday booking to Turkey. Then we can use that money nicely to purchase an Anadol or Kanuni as a souvenir. Or would the tax on exports also be so high?
