We drive on a beautiful summer day through the beautiful British countryside in the County of Hampshire, near Winchester. We then trace the remains of a Chevrolet C10 Pickup in a garden.
The car dates, it turns out, from 1966. Winchester and 1966 have something special? The thoughts are in fact immediately associated to that year and the top hit Winchester Cathedral, brought by The New Vaudeville Band. There is no arguing about taste, one slimmer song like this, luckily you never had to listen to it again… Even before the year came to an end, The Beach Boys replaced it with Good Vibrations. Good vibrations this Chevy has not been awarded. The friendly-looking owner, a bearded fifties, says that he started the restoration of this gem about ten years ago. In his modest workshop he then shows some parts that are already ready. Does it all look promising? It concerns the tailgate, the grill and a piece of sheet metal that must be mounted under the grill. A little further in his garden is the engine. A six-cylinder. Complete with the original three-speed gearbox. It looks like that stuff has been around for a while. In wind and weather. Behind a pile of wood a Chevrolet, a Panel Van. Brown rusted, but still untouched. He too is waiting for better times. During a scheduled coffee break, 'madam' then says that her Chevrolet-loving husband is a 'dreamer', because given his busy work, these projects will never be brought to a successful conclusion ...
