Welding work

It is the hours that count

You run into questions with a car that has MOT welding. We currently have such a car and put the case in a row.

If a car is rejected for rust, it really has a reason. You may actually have quite a lot of rust on bearing parts before it leads to rejection. And then it is about rust on parts that are crucial for the construction. So the only real solution is to have the case made properly (if the car is 'worth'). For that, it is best to look for a specialized welding company, which are usually cheaper in their welding work than damage repairers and better in welding work than garages or dealers. Apart from exceptions of course. In such cases, word of mouth is the best recommendation.

The questions that arise are:

  • Where is the rust? Every place has a different cost. Sometimes there is rust on 1 spot, but it is spread over 3 different parts of the body. That type of repairs contains much more time and material.
  • How large is the rust damage? Repairing a larger place usually takes more time and material. Although it will not be the material that gives the price.
  • Is the location easy to reach? At hard-to-reach places such as sills, much must be dismantled before you can start removing rust and welding. A lot of space is needed to be able to grind rust away and to weld neatly without damaging the rest of the car or causing a fire. The preparation is often more work than the welding itself.
  • What kind of sheet metal is needed? Is repair sheet metal available or does it have to be made to measure? Repair sheet metal costs money, custom work takes more time.
  • How should it be finished? 'No budget' is not an option. 'Low budget', but good enough for the MOT can suffice. A quick repair that does pass the MOT often involves some patchwork, but it is the cheapest. Or are you going for a complete restoration? Real restoration to factory specifications is of course the best, but also a lot more expensive. After the welding work, serious rust prevention must be done immediately.

Just welding a village

Welding small villages is often a lapping tool that is used when it is almost too late to save the car. Because often the damage is also due to underlying structural parts. It is often not only the sill, the bottom plate must often also be provided with new pieces in such cases, and the standing plate in the box girder must usually also be repaired or replaced. And then it becomes really expensive.

Do you help with preparation?

That saves hours. Think of the expansion of seats and the removal of floor coverings and insulation. If you can already dismantle (and reassemble) then you do not have to pay those hours.

Are you going to get started yourself?

In AMK you will find advertisers who provide both welding courses and all necessary welding equipment. Such a course is not only a fun way to get through the winter, but can even be a reason that you will get a lot of friends in your area.
