Tempo Matador by Bolletje
Who is going to tell us if the driver should keep his cup behind the wheel?

Well, before those Volkswagens, the - then still modest - fleet consisted of Tempos. Type Matador. With the split windshield and high placed headlights, the whole thing looked so sad. As if he had driven out of a comic strip where other, better looking cars had bullied him. Tempo originated in Hamburg-Harburg in Germany, sprouted from the brain and founded by the company Vidal & Sohn. From 1924 they were engaged in the construction of vans. For the Matador type, built from 1949 to 1952, an agreement was reached with Volkswagen who gave its support to the Tempo project by supplying the air-cooled Beetle engines, which were mounted in the front. The Tempo Matador was a front wheel drive. At the time, Volkswagen did not yet have a van in its delivery program. That changed when Ben Pon Senior sketched a customer on a cigarette box, Volkswagen saw something in it and shortly afterwards the Volkswagen Transporter was born. Tempo had to look for another engine supplier and eventually found a response at BMC. The Tempo Rapid, equipped with a 4 cylinder 1,6 liter petrol engine from Austin, was born. Back to the buyer of Bolletje. Judging from the registration, this Matador must date from the mid-1950s. The driver was certainly allowed to take off his hat if he got behind the wheel? Are there any drivers from the Bolletje era who can provide us with further information? Please send your reaction to the editors ...
