The classics go out of the garage

Purchasing classics there

Our classics will soon be out of winter storage again. And then there will always be people who start the season with what our Flemish readers call a 'flat' battery. Fortunately, that is not an insurmountable problem. But a while ago someone got very sad when he wanted to kiss his car again. We can only say that he was lucky that cows do not spend the night on roof beams.

Storage is about location, location and location as with Funda

When searching for the next winter storage, ensure that the location is free of pigeons. Also try to avoid stables converted into storage. The ammonia from the faeces of cattle does the most horrible things with the chrome of your classic car. Fortunately for those who want to safely store their property, there are really professional providers of storage space for classics. That really professional also means that there is (camera) surveillance. Because there is no worse start to the season than discovering a classic void after the winter break.

"Must be able to breathe and ventilate"

For people who had covered their pride this winter under a non-ventilating can also look surprised. We have had some very weird climate changes last or current winter. In one of the locations where editorial transport is sleeping, we saw that the vehicles and tools dormant there were literally dripping with condensation that had settled on the cold metal. That problem literally evaporated after a night of burning. But ventilation also helps.

Storage, but chic

It takes some getting used to the idea, but our loyal advertiser 1Classadditions from Ede has a very nice solution for all those storage problems: the Cair-O-Port. That is a - ventilated - tent where your classic can sleep in comfortably. The 'space around the car' prevents the classic from being damaged by things that are put against it and the like.

Hassle with the fuel

But if we just find the car undamaged after the winter break and if we have the battery in order, then there is hardly a pleasant season in the way. At least if the car starts because the 'lifespan' of modern petrols is now about six weeks. After that most volatile elements escaped. The following applies: the older the classic, the fewer the problems. With modern petrol types, rust in the tank is also something that can spoil the fun. If the engine does not get any juice due to clogged pipes / filters, it is necessary to tinker again. To get rust from tanks we recently received a golden tip from reader Gerhard. And why is his wife in the kitchen now without baking powder? We will explain that tomorrow.

In the meantime, it is still freezing. Sprinkling. And some classics have it - just like the birds - bad. The semi editorial Citroën BX from photographer / V Sylvia has to go for the MOT on Thursday. Brine or no brine.
